Fifteen ordinary 12-year-old boys accomplished something extraordinary, winning the hearts of sports fans across America in the process, stunning the mighty Taiwanese. As the Trumbull kids celebrated on the field, the American-flag-waving crowd of 40,000 chanted in earnest – “USA! USA!” No one gave these Little Leaguers from a small town in Connecticut a chance to win. If your Little League son or daughter aspires to play on Williamsport's Little League Field of Dreams for a world championship, then you must read what these Unlikely Champions have to say to your ballplayer achieving those dreams. We pass along the legacy of the game of baseball by telling stories, from fathers to sons and daughters, grandfathers to grandsons and granddaughters, one generation of fans to the next. It's why every game broadcast features a play-by-play announcer for the action and a “color commentator,” to explain the game and share stories about it. The late A. Bartlett Giamatti often claimed that “Baseball stories were at the heart of the appeal of our game. The history of baseball is an oral one.” This is an American baseball story, finally…and finely told. Foreword by Chris Berman

Book Little League Heroes

Download or read book Little League Heroes written by Dad and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2007-11 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am known in many circles as "Tyler's Dad". I felt compelled to write this book as a memento for Tyler, as a sort of scrap book of the season. Having experienced the joys of baseball seasons in my own youth, I often wish that I could remember the games of my childhood with more detail. Hopefully, Tyler will have a copy of this book to peruse when he gets the urge to "relive" a few of the precious memories of this season. It was very fortunate that the team had such a great year, as I began writing after the third or fourth game. It was a positive delight to watch this team from the fi rst practice to the last party out at Coach Mike's house. I hope that you enjoy my telling of this story as much as I enjoyed seeing it unfold before my eyes.

Book The League of Outsider Baseball

Download or read book The League of Outsider Baseball written by Gary Cieradkowski and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From an award-winning graphic artist and baseball historian comes a strikingly original illustrated history of baseball’s forgotten heroes, including stars of the Negro Leagues, barnstorming teams, semi-pro leagues, foreign leagues, and famous players like Shoeless Joe Jackson, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, and Joe DiMaggio before they achieved notoriety. From a young age, Gary Cieradkowski had a passion for baseball’s unheralded heroes. Inspired by his father and their shared love of the sport, Cieradkowski began creating “outsider” baseball cards, as a way to tell the little-known stories of baseball’s many unsung heroes—alongside some of baseball’s greatest players before they were famous. The League of Outsider Baseball is a tribute to all of those who’ve played the game, known and unknown. Shining a light into the dark corners of baseball history—from Mickey Mantle’s minor league days to Negro League greats like Josh Gibson and Leon Day; to people that most never knew played the game, such as Frank Sinatra, who had his own ball club in 1940s Hollywood; bank robber John Dillinger, who was a promising shortstop and took time out between robberies to attend Cubs games; and even a few US presidents—this book is a rich, visual tribute to America’s pastime. Meticulously researched, beautifully illustrated using a unique, vintage baseball-card-style, and filled with a colorful and rich cast of characters, this book is a prized collector’s item and will be cherished by fans of all ages.
