Book School Daze

  • Author : Lucia Jones
  • Publisher : Tate Publishing
  • Release : 2010-11
  • ISBN : 1616635444
  • Pages : 240 pages

Download or read book School Daze written by Lucia Jones and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warning! 'But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.' Matthew 8:6 (KJV) Take heed, all of you unbelieving miscreants in the public school system bent on programming kids for the deceitful New World Order. That warning is from the King of kings! School Daze is written with a satirical bite and is tempered with comic relief. Its author, Lucia Jones, a teacher in the public school system, gives an up-close and personal look at the biggest issues plaguing the System today. Among these issues are school zoning that forces students to move schools (and sometimes neighborhoods) often, a lax teaching curriculum, incompetent school officials, sex education (starting in kindergarten), ditching the basics and the 3 Rs for cuddly, feely programs loaded with political correctness and the two faces of multiculturalism. Christian values no longer play a role in public schools. Some public schools have taken God out of the Pledge of Allegiance and have even gone so far as pledging allegiance to the Earth. Prayer is not allowed, and the Ten Commandments are no longer displayed. Christmas parties are now winter holiday parties. Even the treats for these parties are at the mercy of the System—no more candy and ice cream, but tofu smoothies and yogurt cups. Lucia Jones is a devout Christian, mother of four, grandmother of eleven, and a veteran elementary school teacher in the public school system of twenty-five-plus years. She has spent eighteen of those years teaching at a small public elementary school on an Indian reservation. Lucia lives in Northern Nevada with her husband, Tom.

Download or read book Landscaping with Edible Plants in Texas written by Cheryl Beesley and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 2015-10-16 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this complete reference to integrating edible plants into a wide range of private and public landscapes, landscape designer Cheryl Beesley thoroughly answers the questions of how to plant, where to plant, and what to plant. She covers garden layout, bed construction, and fencing options and offers specific design examples for a wide variety of possibilities for edible landscapes, such as a schoolyard, restaurant, or residence. She presents an extensive pallet of edible plant choices for Texas arranged by trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals and includes detailed information about plant families as well as individual plants. Appendixes instruct readers on disease and insect control, additional variety selections, and plant and seed sources. As the author points out, however they are incorporated, vegetables and fruits—long relegated to their own plots and often hidden from view—can become beautiful and practical additions to the ornamental landscape.

Choosing Sides brings excitement to every meal with these innovative and contemporary side dishes.” —Diane Morgan, author of Roots: The Definitive Compendium “This is an extraordinary collection, able to turn anyone who can roast a chicken or grill a lamb chop into a top chef. Nobody needs another recipe for meatloaf, but accompany your old standby with the likes of Smoked Gouda Grits and Red Grape and Bacon Salad (easy to throw together while the meatloaf is in the oven), and I guarantee your best friend’s other best friends will cringe with jealousy.” —Andrew Schloss, author of Art of the Slow Cooker and Cooking Slow: Recipes for Slowing Down and Cooking More “Oh, to be an entrée surrounded by [Desmond’s] flavorful, colorful, vibrant sides! In Choosing Sides, Tara offers a modern spin on the humble, oft-neglected accompaniment. Her Chorizo Chard; Blood Orange Wild Rice; and Persimmon, Pomegranate, and Pistachio Salad are but three examples for how to turn supporting players into shining culinary stars.
