Book An African Abroad

Download or read book An African Abroad written by Aurora Mizutani and published by Aurora Mizutani. This book was released on 2023-03-02 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aurora Mizutani has written a book that questions everything we have ever thought about. “An African Abroad” is the memoir of one of Moshood Adisa Olabisi Ajala's children. Olabisi Ajala was a renowned journalist, traveller, and actor. The book briefly recollects the lifelong achievements of the author's father and highlights his interactions with his young daughter. “An African Abroad" is a collection of anecdotes that speaks to the reader about international adventures, friendships, relationships, trials, and tribulations. The first-person account addresses complex subjects, including teenage escapades, parental trauma, and redemption through political and historical self-re-education. The book invites the reader to adopt a realistic perspective (instead of burying their heads in the sand). It reveals her theory about the deep-rooted and biggest secret in the entertainment industry and shines a light on the prevailing darkness surrounding child exploitation and grooming. This fictionalised journal is written in a cynical yet uplifting instructive manner, where the narrator undergoes a state of censure to achieve her goal of contemplation, self-analysis and ultimately autonomy from socially imposed scruples. Spread into eleven chapters, “An African Abroad” transports the reader on a journey that depicts the narrator's character and growth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anything to do with children's entertainment is a source of controversy: children's television programmes, musical preferences, and leisure activities are frequent sources of debate. Toys and play are often singled out for attention, particularly war toys, sex-typed toys, and video games with aggressive themes. Are these harmful to children? Are they addictive? Alternatively, can parents facilitate children's learning with educational toys? Toys, Play, and Child Development explores these and other questions. Parental attitudes and reactions towards war toys are described, as are the children's views themselves. Toys and play are shown to contribute to the development of language, imagination, and intellectual achievement and to be effective in child psychotherapy.

The editors solicited nominations from more than 300 magazines, literary journals, and small presses and narrowed the selection to 19 authors. The stories, written by Midwestern writers or focusing on the Midwest, demonstrate that the quality of fiction from and about the heart of the country rivals that of any other region. Guest editor John McNally introduces the anthology, which features short fiction by Charles Baxter, Dan Chaon, Christopher Mohar, Rebecca Makkai, Lee Martin, and others.

Facing off against a deadbeat dad and his mom’s abusive boyfriend, he’s had to fight every step of the way just to survive. Not only that, his family’s low social status makes him an object of ridicule and abuse among his peers and the community at large. That all begins to change when Garbage Boy meets up with Mister and Stone Pony, two mysterious men who enlist his aid in their growing sanitation enterprise. Who would have thought picking up garbage would be the road to redemption, never mind riches? But not even that comes easily for Garbage Boy. Although Garbage Boy’s situation improves remarkably at first, the deeper his involvement with Mister and Stone Pony, the more complicated his life becomes, to the point he risks losing everything he’s fought so hard to gain. The book implies an ethical question “Does a wrong become right if you have been wronged all along?”
