Book Little a and Ku Jaa

Download or read book Little a and Ku Jaa written by John Chipley and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2016-02-20 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shirley Nelson Kersey, Ph.D. For The Young African-American Boy Readers of the books of fiction featuring Little A, a boy living in the projects of Memphis, are instantly aware that the writer is eminently qualified to focus on this young hero. Only a person who has taught in the inner city schools is able to create a fictional, yet realistic account of the life of a youngster struggling to find himself in this environment. John Chipley, whom the boys fondly have dubbed Mr. Chip, taught in Memphis inner-city schools for over fifteen years. In retirement he offers weekly volunteer sessions that focus on encouraging boys to read. This is a lofty goal, for the boys live in homes and neighborhood environments not structured to develop reading skills or dreams of career advancement. Mr. Chips goal surpasses development of reading ability to encourage the boys to enjoy this privilege. Chipley is formally prepared to teach, for he holds both Bachelor and Master of Education degrees. However, the most memorable aspect of his classroom presence is his heart. He cares deeply about each one of his students and is there for them both now and in the future. Through the persona of Little A, Chipley gives the boys a fictional character with whom they can identify. Little As life style echoes theirs. While reading this series of books, the boys witness someone they can relate to. Little A is a wonderful fictional character full of wisdom, character, adventure, and confidence.

Book Little a and the Other Side of Teaching

Download or read book Little a and the Other Side of Teaching written by Daniel Rolling and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-05-16 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TEACHING IS A GIFT, a very special gift. I believe it is a part of a person’s DNA. There are a lot of very smart people who cannot teach because they lack this genetic part of their DNA profile. These people make great doctors, business leaders, lawyers, carpenters, etc., but not teachers. Teachers are people who can create magic and excitement in the lives of children, making them want to learn. Once a child wants to learn, a teacher’s job is almost over. I taught in the inner-city. Inner-city teachers go where most teachers do not want to go. However, I loved every day. This book, with just a few exceptions, is a true story of my journey. I couldn’t make up stories this good, this funny, or this sad. So, follow me to the other side.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite recent developments in epigraphy, ethnopoetics, and the literary investigation of colonial and modern materials, few studies have compared glyphic texts and historic Maya literatures. Parallel Worlds examines Maya writing and literary traditions from the Classic period until today, revealing remarkable continuities across time. In this volume, contributions from leading scholars in Maya literary studies examine Maya discourse from Classic period hieroglyphic inscriptions to contemporary spoken narratives, focusing on parallelism to unite the literature historically. Contributors take an ethnopoetic approach, examining literary and verbal arts from a historical perspective, acknowledging that poetic form is as important as narrative content in deciphering what these writings reveal about ancient and contemporary worldviews. Encompassing a variety of literary motifs, including humor, folklore, incantation, mythology, and more specific forms of parallelism such as couplets, chiasms, kennings, and hyperbatons, Parallel Worlds is a rich journey through Maya culture and pre-Columbian literature that will be of interest to students and scholars of anthropology, ethnography, Latin American history, epigraphy, comparative literature, language studies, indigenous studies, and mythology.
