Download or read book Lithostratigraphy Sedimentology Paleontology Organic Petrology and Organic Geochemistry of the Middle Devonian Ashern Winnipegosis and Eyot Formations in East central Alberta and West central Saskatchewan written by N. C. Meijer-Drees and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes the Middle Devonian Elk Point Group of Alberta & Saskatchewan. The purpose of the report is to describe the onlap of the Middle Devonian strata in east central Alberta; to establish the map units used to illustrate the onlap; to show that the succession is distinctly different from that in south central Saskatchewan; and to integrate & discuss borehole information obtained from micropaleontological, organic petrological, geochemical, lithological, and sedimentological studies. After an overview of the Group's geological setting, detailed lithostratigraphic information is presented for each formation of the Group, including their regional distribution, lithology, sedimentology, paleontology, geochemistry, and stratigraphy.

Download or read book Paleontological Events written by Carlton Elliot Brett and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 1997 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A recent renaissance in the field of "event" stratigraphy has promoted a much more thorough examination of the geologic record of particular fossil-bearing strata. This reference work compiles the findings of leading researchers on fossil beds, epiboles and global bioevents, mapping out a definitive temporal and regional classification of event horizons. Based primarily on research with Lower and Middle Paleozoic rocks of eastern North America, 'this volume significantly links these events to relatively short-term phenomena, including storms and climate-forcing cycles. An invaluable resource for specialists and students in the fields of paleontology, paleoecology, stratigraphy, and sedimentology, Paleontological Events helps to clarify the biological and taphonomic significance of these horizons.
Download or read book High Resolution Approaches in Stratigraphic Paleontology written by P.J. Harries and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-07-30 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume delves into a spectrum of theoretical as well as applied aspects of high-resolution stratigraphic approaches in paleontology. It explores how increasingly detailed knowledge of the fossil record can enhance our understanding of the evolution of life on Earth and also allows geoscientists to address a broad range of important evolutionary and environmental questions in this arena. A 'zipped' version of the program CONOP9 2007 along with read-me files, sample files, and other documentation are available via a web site (see below). An earlier version of CONOP9 was initially supplied with 'High-Resolution Approaches in Stratigraphic Paleontology' (PJ Harries, editor) and described in Chapter 13 of that volume. This is an updated version of the program, and the documentation supplied with this version supersedes the information supplied in that chapter. This book was released on 2018 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The upper Cretaceous-Tertiary Nuussuaq Basin in West Greenland contains a many kilometres thick succession of siliciclastic sediments and overlying volcanic rocks. The first studies in the early 19th century were centred on the coal and fossils in the sediments and the minerals in the volcanic rocks, including famous occurrences of native iron. The present focus of interest includes modern stratigraphic and volcanological studies to decipher the basin evolution and support hydrocarbon and mineral exploration. This bulletin presents the lithostratigraphy, geology and geochemistry of teh Paleocene volcanic rocks of the Maligât Formation and its related intrusions on Disko and the Nuussuaq peninsula; it concludes with a detailed discussion of the effects of crustal contamination processes. The Maligât Formation is up to 2000 m thick and comprises four formally defined members and 15 chemically defined informal units. It is mainly composed of basalt lavas but also includes basaltic andesite, andesit and dacite flows and rhyolite tuffs. The silicic rocks and intrusions were produced by contaminiation in high-level magma chambers and commonly contain native iron. The comprehensive descriptions and analysis of each member and unit represent a synthesis of many years of work and are intended to serve as a guide for future studies, including exploration for mineral deposits associated with some units of the formation."--Back cover.
