Book A History of Catalan Folk Literature

Download or read book A History of Catalan Folk Literature written by Carme Oriol and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019-12-11 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A History of Catalan Folk Literature is the fruit of a collaborative effort between fifteen researchers from various universities and research centres who have joined forces to create a broader study of Catalan folk literature that addresses the Catalan linguistic and cultural territories in their entirety. Since the thirteenth century, Catalan culture has created a rich and abundant literary legacy, and since the mid-nineteenth century this has been complemented by a tradition of folklore studies that remains very much alive today. Within this comparatively recent discipline, folk literature has played a particularly important role. The book presents the evolution of Catalan folk literature studies in each of the areas that make up the Catalan linguistic and cultural territories referred to above. The period considered stretches from the mid-nineteenth century, when the beginnings of a scientific interest in folklore emerged across Europe, to the present day.

    Book Details:
  • Author : Philippe Poirrier
  • Publisher : Universitat de València
  • Release : 2015-05-16
  • ISBN : 8437089492
  • Pages : 255 pages

Download or read book La historia cultural written by Philippe Poirrier and published by Universitat de València. This book was released on 2015-05-16 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Reconstructing Cultural Memory

Download or read book Reconstructing Cultural Memory written by International Comparative Literature Association. Congress and published by Rodopi. This book was released on 2000 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Latin American culture has given birth to numerous dramatic works, though it has often been difficult to locate information about these plays and playwrights. This volume traces the history of Latin American theater, including the Nuyorican and Chicano theaters of the United States, and surveys its history from the pre-Columbian period to the present. Sections cover individual Latin American countries. Each section features alphabetically arranged entries for playwrights, independent theaters, and cultural movements. The volume begins with an overview of the development of theater in Latin America. Each of the country sections begins with an introductory survey and concludes with copious bibliographical information. The entries for playwrights provide factual information about the dramatist's life and works and place the author within the larger context of international literature. Each entry closes with a list of works by and about the playwright. A selected, general bibliography appears at the end of the volume.

Book Black Writing Culture and the State in Latin America

Download or read book Black Writing Culture and the State in Latin America written by Jerome C. Branche and published by Vanderbilt University Press. This book was released on 2021-04-30 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagine the tension that existed between the emerging nations and governments throughout the Latin American world and the cultural life of former enslaved Africans and their descendants. A world of cultural production, in the form of literature, poetry, art, music, and eventually film, would often simultaneously contravene or cooperate with the newly established order of Latin American nations negotiating independence and a new political and cultural balance. In Black Writing, Culture, and the State in Latin America, Jerome Branche presents the reader with the complex landscape of art and literature among Afro-Hispanic and Latin artists. Branche and his contributors describe individuals such as Juan Francisco Manzano, who wrote an autobiography on the slave experience in Cuba during the nineteenth century. The reader finds a thriving Afro-Hispanic theatrical presence throughout Latin America and even across the Atlantic. The role of black women in poetry and literature comes to the forefront in the Caribbean, presenting a powerful reminder of the diversity that defines the region. All too often, the disciplines of film studies, literary criticism, and art history ignore the opportunity to collaborate in a dialogue. Branche and his contributors present a unified approach, however, suggesting that cultural production should not be viewed narrowly, especially when studying the achievements of the Afro-Latin world.

This book was released on 2010-02-09 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
