Book Literarische Perspektiven auf den Kapitalismus

Download or read book Literarische Perspektiven auf den Kapitalismus written by Annika Gonnermann and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2021-03-08 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Dystopia on Demand Technology Digital Culture and the Metamodern Quest in Complex Serial Dystopias

Download or read book Dystopia on Demand Technology Digital Culture and the Metamodern Quest in Complex Serial Dystopias written by Laura Winter and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2024-01-29 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Serial storytelling has the advantage of unlocking rather than simplifying the complexities of digital culture. With their worldbuilding potential, TV series open up new artistic horizons, particularly for the dystopian genre. Situated at the nexus of dystopia, complex TV, and a metamodern cultural logic, Dystopia on Demand: Technology, Digital Culture, and the Metamodern Quest in Complex Serial Dystopias offers readers novel insights into the dynamics of serial dystopias in the contemporary streaming landscape. Introducing the term 'complex serial dystopias' to describe series that allow audiences to engage with the dystopian premise from multiple angles, the book examines four Anglo-American series, including Black Mirror, Mr. Robot, Westworld, and Kiss Me First. The in-depth analyses trace the variety of ways in which these series offer critical reflections on the human-technology entanglement in digital culture.

Book The Transformative Power of Literature and Narrative Promoting Positive Change

Download or read book The Transformative Power of Literature and Narrative Promoting Positive Change written by Corinna Assmann and published by Narr Francke Attempto Verlag. This book was released on 2023-01-16 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Narrative plays a central role for individual and collective lives - this insight has arguably only grown at a time of multiple social and cultural challenges in the 21st century. The present volume aims to actualize and further substantiate the case for literature and narrative, taking inspiration from Vera Nünning's eminent scholarship over the past decades. Engaging with her formative interdisciplinary work, the volume seeks to explore potentials of change through the transformative power of literature and narrative - to be harnessed by individuals and groups as agents of positive change in today's world. The book is located at the intersection of cognitive and cultural narratology and is concerned with the way literature affects individuals, how it works at an intersubjective level, enabling communication and community, and how it furthers social and cultural change.

Book excerpt: Ein "artistisches Ganzes"?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 1970s, the economic and social foundations of Western Europe underwent an unprecedented transformation. Old industries like coal and steel disappeared, millions of people lost their jobs and formerly flourishing towns and cities went into decline. Traditional political agendas gave way to new social problems and concerns. What happened to industrial citizens – their workplaces, their careers and their homes? How did social rights and political participation of workers change when markets became global, management lean and financial capital dominant? How did companies change and how were personal skills and work tasks reinvented under the impact of new technologies? How did workers – men and women – live through these decades of uncertainty and upheaval? Lutz Raphael reconstructs the highly variegated story of deindustrialization in Western Europe with a particular focus on Britain, France and West Germany. Extending over three decades, this transformation was accompanied by significant rises in productivity and consumerism, but it also came at a heavy cost, ushering in many low-income jobs, growing inequality and a crisis of democratic representation. Its legacy is everywhere around us today – it is the transformation that has shaped our world.

Download or read book Deutscher Kapitalismus written by Marie Cantin and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2011-06-15 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Multiple Knowledges Learning from with Other Beings

Download or read book Multiple Knowledges Learning from with Other Beings written by Joanna Godlewicz-Adamiec and published by V&R unipress. This book was released on 2022-04-11 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This issue of Transpositiones showcases a range of interdisciplinary and critical approaches to classic and alternative conceptions of cognition and sources of knowledge. The articles reflect on the many types of sensory and extrasensory knowledge available to non-human beings and wonder whether and in what ways can we, as humans, perceive, conceptualize, and respect these knowledges. The authors highlight how the existence of multiple knowledges questions species boundaries and onto- and epistemological perspectives, in the process of learning not only about other beings but also from and along with them. This selection of texts attempts to contribute to overcoming the anthropocentric perception of subjectivity and to the abandoning of an optics based on the dualisms of nature and culture, spirit and matter, subject and object, animate and inanimate nature, physis and techne, etc., which are so firmly entrenched in the Western intellectual tradition.

Book Fugitive Knowledge

Download or read book Fugitive Knowledge written by Andreas Beer and published by Cultural Encounters and the Discourses of Scholarship. This book was released on 2015 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Encounters between cultures are also encounters between knowledge systems. This volume brings together a number of case studies that explore how some knowledge in cultural contact zones becomes transient, evanescent, and ephemeral. The essays examine various aspects of cultural, especially colonial, epistemic exchanges, placing special emphasis on the fate of those knowledges that are not easily appropriated by or translated from one cultural sphere into another and thus remain at the margins of cross-cultural exchanges. In addition, the imposition of colonial power is unthinkable without the strategic deployment and use of knowledge; most colonial states, including those of Germany in the Baltic and in West Africa, were knowledge-acquiring machines - yet, acquisition always includes rejection, detainment and subjugation of recalcitrant epistemes. Bringing together insights from various scholarly disciplines, including literary studies, history, historical anthropology, and political science, the essays in this volume investigate how different or unfamiliar knowledge was, and in some cases still is, disarticulated by being belittled, discredited, and demonized. But they also show the strategies of resilience deployed by subjugated and subaltern people: the ways in which certain materials have escaped the coloniality of knowledge - how fragments and shards of other epistemologies remain inscribed in the polyphony and fuzziness of intercultural documents and archives.
