Download or read book Dynamics of Water Waves written by Michael Longuet-Higgins and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a three-volume selection of classical papers by Michael Longuet-Higgins, who for many years has been a leading researcher in the fast-developing field of physical oceanography. Some of these papers were first published in scientific journals or in conference proceedings that are now difficult to access. All the papers are characterized by the novelty of their content, and the clarity of their style and exposition. The papers are quite varied in their approach. They range from basic theory and new computational methods to laboratory experiments and field observations. An overall feature is the frequent comparison between theory and experiment and the constant attention to practical applications. Among the many advances and achievements to be found in these three volumes are: the now generally accepted solution to the longstanding problem of how oceanic microseisms can be generated in deep water or near steep coastlines; a theoretical explanation of the strong drifting near the bottom in shallow water; the first introduction of a boundary-integral technique for calculating free surface flows; simple analytic expressions for the form and time-development of plunging breakers; and so on. The book will be of particular interest to advanced students in ocean engineering; also more generally to fluid dynamicists and physical oceanographers concerned with the interaction of the ocean with the atmosphere and with sandy shorelines.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers presented either in oral or poster form at the international symposium `Limnology of Mountain Lakes', held at Stará Lesná (Slovakia) between 1 and 7 July 1991. Several papers covered contributions from the fields of physical and chemical limnology, palaeolimnology, zooplankton, phytoplankton and phytobenthos, and bacteria. Acidification, a process affecting water chemistry and biota of many mountain lakes in Europe was dealt with also. A series of papers on the lakes in Sumava has highlighted different aspects of these lakes, which are in the last stage of acidification. Other geographical areas covered extensively were the Tatras and the Alps.

Book Hydraulic and Environmental Modelling Estuarine and River Waters

Download or read book Hydraulic and Environmental Modelling Estuarine and River Waters written by R.A. Falconer and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1992, this is the second of two volumes on recent advances in the field of hydraulic and environmental modelling, with invited and refereed contributions from an international group of engineers, scientists and planners involved in application, research and development. It covers the estuarine and river waters with parts devoted to: flow processes; flow modelling; salinity intrusion modelling; water quality modelling; sediment transport modelling; expert systems. The first volume covers coastal waters. With the continually increasing interest in the development and application of numerical hydraulic models, their value is especially evident as tools of design and management for flow, pollutant and sediment transport simulation studies in various environments. The readership includes practising engineers and scientists in the water industry, consulting engineers, water companies and the NRA and other government departments, university and polytechnic libraries, staff and students and all other members of the water engineering profession.

Book Radionuclides in the Study of Marine Processes

Download or read book Radionuclides in the Study of Marine Processes written by P.J. Kershaw and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Norwich Symposium, 'Radionuclides in the Study of Marine Proces ses', is a sequel to the very successful conference held at Cherbourg, France in June 1987. The international character of the meeting has been maintained with thirty-eight contributions, from seventeen countries, being accepted for oral presentation. For many years, the radioactive properties of the naturally occurring radionuclides have been used to determine their distributions in the marine environment and, more generally, to gain an understanding of the dynamic processes which control their behaviour in attaining these distributions. More recently the inputs from human activities of both natural and artificial (i.e. man-made) radionuclides have provided additional opportunities for the study of marine processes on local, regional and global scales. Because the sources of artificial radionuclides are often reasonably well defined in space and time, and because a wider range of elements is represented, new viewpoints for the study of processes have become available. Although it is outside the scope of this Symposium, it must be acknowledged that the radiological protection requirements for radioactive waste disposal prac tices to be based on a sound scientific understanding of radionuclide behaviour in the sea have also provided a very strong impetus for the studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide provides current and available information (characteristics, appearance, wildlife benefits, and hydrology) for most of the trees, shrubs, herbaceous emergents, and submerged and floating aquatic vegetation that dominate the tidal and nontidal wetlands of the northeastern United States. It is organized to be of maximum utility to those individuals that are developing the designs (plans and specifications) for wetland construction, enhancement, and restoration projects.
