This book was released on 2018-01-04 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from List of References on the History of the Reformation in Germany Probably three-fourths of the titles in our bibliography are contained in Dahlmann - Waitz, but a surprisingly large fraction has either been overlooked by the compilers of that work or has appeared since it went to press. Therefore we have made a special effort to include publications since 1910 as well as some of the Older material in English which it has omitted. The table of contents furnishes a detailed guide to subjects. Titles of books have been entered but Once, though many might have been classified under several headings; hence the only way to be sure one has found all the needed information here con tained, is to look under more than one heading. This process would have been greatly facilitated had it been practicable to make an index; but the delay involved seemed prohibitive. Book German Histories in the Age of Reformations 1400 1650

Download or read book German Histories in the Age of Reformations 1400 1650 written by Thomas A. Brady and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-13 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the connections between the political reform of the Holy Roman Empire and the German lands around 1500 and the sixteenth-century religious reformations, both Protestant and Catholic. It argues that the character of the political changes (dispersed sovereignty, local autonomy) prevented both a general reformation of the Church before 1520 and a national reformation thereafter. The resulting settlement maintained the public peace through politically structured religious communities (confessions), thereby avoiding further religious strife and fixing the confessions into the Empire's constitution. The Germans' emergence into the modern era as a people having two national religions was the reformation's principal legacy to modern Germany.

Book Martin Luther and the Reformation in Germany

Download or read book Martin Luther and the Reformation in Germany written by Charles Beard and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Martin Luther and the Reformation in Germany: Until the Close of the Diet of Worms My editorial duties have been hardly more than to see through the press a singularly and characteristically perfect manuscript; and they have been lightened by the faithful care with which Mrs. Beard and her son, Mr. Lewis Beard, b.a., have compared manuscript and proof. I have considered it needful, in order to guard against accidental error, to exercise a general supervision of the narrative, to compare quotations with the original passages, and to verify references. N o alterations have been introduced into the text or the notes, except where an obvious lapsus calami had crept in, which, however, thanks to the author's extreme accuracy, has happened but very occasionally. Here and there in the notes a reference to books or articles published since the manuscript was finished has been added. For the title of the volume, the headings of the chapters and the pages, and the list of the principal authorities and editions used by the author, I am responsible; and for the Index, Mr. Lewis Beard. Book excerpt: As the birthplace of the Reformation, Germany has been the site of some of the most significant moments in the history of European Christianity. Today, however, its religious landscape is one that would scarcely be recognizable to earlier generations. This groundbreaking survey of German postwar religious life depicts a profoundly changed society: congregations shrink, private piety is on the wane, and public life has almost entirely shed its Christian character, yet there remains a booming market for syncretistic and individualistic forms of “popular religion.” Losing Heaven insightfully recounts these dramatic shifts and explains their consequences for German religious communities and the polity as a whole.
