Book excerpt: Excerpt from Educational Tests and Measurements The literature and materials of standardized educational tests are in creasing so rapidly and becoming so abundant that it is difficult for the teacher or supervisor to find his way through the maze. Hence the purpose of this bulletin is to place in the hands of school superintendents, principals and teachers a brief statement of the nature of the scales, tests and measure ments now available for the elementary school subjects, with the available references on each test and a general selected bibliography on the tests for each subject. It was the original intention of the writer to add another division to this bulletin setting forth the purpose and value of educational tests and measurements. Owing to the lack of space that part has been omitted. Most of this has been covered, however, in another bulletin by the writer on The Value of Standardized Educational Tests to the Teacher, published by Colo rado State Teachers College, Greeley, 1920. The general bibliography at the beginning of this bulletin is also added to aid in covering this deficiency. The tests most widely used and those which seem to be the most promis ing are indicated by asterisks. The author wishes to express his indebtedness to Dr. J. D. Heilman and Mr. E. D. Book excerpt: The bibliography presented in this bulletin purports to cover the printed material issued in this country concerning intelligence and educational tests during the period from January 1, 1918 to June 30, 1922. It has been the purpose of the compilers to make the bibliography as useful to students and to practical school people as possible. To that end the materials have been classified under certain large and important topics. This has necessitated the printing of the same reference more than once--in some instances many times. This bibliography is divided into six parts, and it is entirely possible for an article or book to be listed in any or all of the first four of these parts. The first part takes up general matters; the second deals with articles under the heading of the particular tests to which they refer; the third presents materials on the characteristics and uses of tests; and the fourth presents much the same materials as the other parts, but classifies them according to the types of schools in which the tests were used. The fifth part merely gives a list of the tests which appeared during the period to which the bibliography is devoted. Since additional tests have appeared during the time this bibliography has been in preparation, the list has been extended by the inclusion of some of the more important tests issued subsequent to June, 1922. Part six merely gives a list of the periodicals to which reference has been made in the bibliography. The term "periodical" is here to be taken as including monograph series and other publications which appear with some regularity. (Includes an index.) [Best copy available has been provided.].
