Book The First Battle of the First World War

Download or read book The First Battle of the First World War written by Karl Deuringer and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2014-09-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 7 August 1914 a French corps attacked towards Mulhouse in Alsace and was immediately thrown back by the Germans. On 14 August, two weeks before Tannenberg and three weeks before the Battle of the Marne, the French 1st and 2nd Armies attacked into Lorraine, and on 20 August the German 6th and 7th Armies counterattacked. After forty-three years of peace, this was the first test of strength between France and Germany. In 1929, Karl Deuringer wrote the official history of the battle for the Bavarian Army, an immensely detailed work of 890 pages, chronicling the battle to 15 September. Here, First World War expert and former army officer Terence Zuber has translated and edited this study to a more accessible length, while retaining over thirty highly detailed maps, to bring us the first account in English of the first major battle of the Great War.

Book Amber 2023

    Book Details:
  • Author : David A. Case
  • Publisher : University of California, San Francisco
  • Release : 2023-04-30
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 1016 pages

Download or read book Amber 2023 written by David A. Case and published by University of California, San Francisco. This book was released on 2023-04-30 with total page 1016 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amber is the collective name for a suite of programs that allow users to carry out molecular dynamics simulations, particularly on biomolecules. None of the individual programs carries this name, but the various parts work reasonably well together, and provide a powerful framework for many common calculations.[1, 2] The term Amber is also used to refer to the empirical force fields that are implemented here.[3, 4] It should be recognized, however, that the code and force field are separate: several other computer packages have implemented the Amber force fields, and other force fields can be implemented with the Amber programs. Further, the force fields are in the public domain, whereas the codes are distributed under a license agreement. The Amber software suite is divided into two parts: AmberTools23, a collection of freely available programs mostly under the GPL license, and Amber22, which is centered around the pmemd simulation program, and which continues to be licensed as before, under a more restrictive license. Amber22 represents a significant change from the most recent previous version, Amber20. (We have moved to numbering Amber releases by the last two digits of the calendar year, so there are no odd-numbered versions.) Please see https://ambermd.org for an overview of the most important changes. AmberTools is a set of programs for biomolecular simulation and analysis. They are designed to work well with each other, and with the “regular” Amber suite of programs. You can perform many simulation tasks with AmberTools, and you can do more extensive simulations with the combination of AmberTools and Amber itself. Most components of AmberTools are released under the GNU General Public License (GPL). A few components are in the public domain or have other open-source licenses. See the README file for more information.

Book Structure and Evolution of Invertebrate Nervous Systems

Download or read book Structure and Evolution of Invertebrate Nervous Systems written by Andreas Schmidt-Rhaesa and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-17 with total page 776 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nervous system is particularly fascinating for many biologists because it controls animal characteristics such as movement, behavior, and coordinated thinking. Invertebrate neurobiology has traditionally been studied in specific model organisms, whilst knowledge of the broad diversity of nervous system architecture and its evolution among metazoan animals has received less attention. This is the first major reference work in the field for 50 years, bringing together many leading evolutionary neurobiologists to review the most recent research on the structure of invertebrate nervous systems and provide a comprehensive and authoritative overview for a new generation of researchers. Presented in full colour throughout, Structure and Evolution of Invertebrate Nervous Systems synthesizes and illustrates the numerous new findings that have been made possible with light and electron microscopy. These include the recent introduction of new molecular and optical techniques such as immunohistochemical staining of neuron-specific antigens and fluorescence in-situ-hybridization, combined with visualization by confocal laser scanning microscopy. New approaches to analysing the structure of the nervous system are also included such as micro-computational tomography, cryo-soft X-ray tomography, and various 3-D visualization techniques. The book follows a systematic and phylogenetic structure, covering a broad range of taxa, interspersed with chapters focusing on selected topics in nervous system functioning which are presented as research highlights and perspectives. This comprehensive reference work will be an essential companion for graduate students and researchers alike in the fields of metazoan neurobiology, morphology, zoology, phylogeny and evolution.
