Book Recent Advances in Liquid Liquid Extraction

Download or read book Recent Advances in Liquid Liquid Extraction written by C. Hanson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent Advances in Liquid-liquid Extraction focuses on the applications of liquid extraction. The selection first discusses solvent extraction. Concerns include organic and inorganic separations, mass transfer process, solvent extraction economics, and coalescence in liquid-liquid systems. The book focuses on the chemistry of solvent extraction. Extraction by acidic organophosphorus compounds; extraction by phosphorus-bonded oxygen-donor solvents; extraction by high-molecular weight amines; and synergistic extraction are elaborated. The book also focuses on industrial organic processes; industrial contacting equipment; response characteristics and control of extraction processes; and calculation of contactors with longitudinal mixing. The selection presents the study of longitudinal mixing in liquid-liquid contactors. Rotating disc contactors, packed columns, vibrating plate extractors, and Oldshue-Rushton columns are described. The text also discusses heat transfer by direct liquid-liquid contact and the coalescence of liquid droplets and liquid dispersion. The selection is a vital source of data for readers interested in liquid extraction.

Book Progress Report on the Separation of Zirconium and Hafnium by Means of Liquid liquid Extraction Using Alkyl Amines

Download or read book Progress Report on the Separation of Zirconium and Hafnium by Means of Liquid liquid Extraction Using Alkyl Amines written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The results of preliminary tests showed that it is possible to separate zirconium and hafnium in sulphate solution using high molecular weight liquid amines. Tertiary amines are considered to be the most promising extractants because of their high capacities. A separation factor of the order of 10 was obtained from an aqueous solution containing 10 g/l zirconium oxide and 0.2 g/l hafnium oxide at a pH value of 0.5 units using tertiary amines. 0.2 M organic solutions of tertiary amines have a capacity of approximately 6 g/l zirconium oxide. Alamine 336 has been selected for more detailed study. Substantially, complete separation of zirconium and hafnium was obtained in a five stage countercurrent experiment using alamine 336. Hafnium was not detected by spectrographic means in the organic phase of the final stage. The results of preliminary tests with fluoride solutions were inconclusive, revealing a lack of fundamental knowledge of the chemistry of zirconium and hafnium fluoride complexes in solution. However, these tests are to be repeated with modifications. The extraction isotherm of zirconium in sulphate solution extracted by tri-iso-octylamine was shown to correspond to the theory developed by Dr PJ Lloyd. A general theory of separation using liquid amines was developed and tests designed to prove its applicability are in progress.

Download or read book Solvent Extraction written by Vladimir S Kislik and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-11-04 with total page 573 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main challenge in modern solvent extraction separation is that most techniques are mainly empirical, specific and particular for narrow fields of practice and require a large degree of experimentation. This concise and modern book provides a complete overview of both solvent extraction separation techniques and the novel and unified competitive complexation/solvation theory. This novel and unified technique presented in the book provides a key for a preliminary quantitative prediction of suitable extraction systems without experimentation, thus saving researchers time and resources. Analyzes and compares both classical and new competitive models and techniques Offers a novel and unified competitive complexation / solvation theory that permits researchers to standardize some parameters, which decreases the need for experimentation at R&D Presents examples of applications in multiple disciplines such as chemical, biochemical, radiochemical, pharmaceutical and analytical separation Written by an outstanding scientist who is prolific in the field of separation science
