Book excerpt: LIPSTICK FOOTBALL(TM) is an exciting new goal-busting method created by Diana Weynand, who has taken her on-the-field experience as a football player, manager and lifelong fan and applied it to the game of life. Weynand uses LIPSTICK as an acronym for 8 game-changing principles that provide a necessary foundation to take choice-driven actions and ensure a path to success. Whether you're a devoted fan of the sport or don't know a pigskin from a pick-six, the game of football is a treasure trove of wisdom about how to live life: how to try harder, face a challenge, pick a different approach, build a better team, play like a quarterback, think like a coach-and never give up. All you need to implement that wisdom is a little LIPSTICK.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This landmark work explores the vibrant world of football from the 1920s through the 1950s, a period in which the game became deeply embedded in American life. Though millions experienced the thrills of college and professional football firsthand during these years, many more encountered the game through their daily newspapers or the weekly Saturday Evening Post, on radio broadcasts, and in the newsreels and feature films shown at their local movie theaters. Asking what football meant to these millions who followed it either casually or passionately, Michael Oriard reconstructs a media-created world of football and explores its deep entanglements with a modernizing American society. Football, claims Oriard, served as an agent of "Americanization" for immigrant groups but resisted attempts at true integration and racial equality, while anxieties over the domestication and affluence of middle-class American life helped pave the way for the sport's rise in popularity during the Cold War. Underlying these threads is the story of how the print and broadcast media, in ways specific to each medium, were powerful forces in constructing the football culture we know today.

With the media circling and pro football contracts hanging in the balance, can these couples keep their personal lives private? Up and Coming An unexpected love could cost him his dreams. Emmett Cross doesn't have time to date. A college quarterback on a path to turning pro, he can't afford distractions, especially with the academic challenges he faces. When he's blindsided by a growing attraction to his friend Jake, he fights it—rumors that he's bisexual could wreck his draft prospects. Emmett's cool logic is the perfect complement to Jake’s sensitive nature. He’s sure nothing can come of his longing—until a scorching kiss turns desire into hope. Although the tall, sexy athlete with the trim waist and thick biceps denies that there’s a chance for them, his lustful looks and stolen touches tell a different story. Passion ignites between them, but Emmett insists on hiding the relationship. When their secret is threatened, will Emmett give up Jake to protect his career? Or will he risk it all for love? Coming Attraction When teammates become lovers, sometimes coming out isn't an option. Fun-loving Waseem likes his freedom. The wide receiver for the Coastal College Pirates has never stayed with one guy for long. So why can't he put football teammate Brent out of his mind? Brent is straight—he's been dating the same girl for years. Waseem knows that the sexy blond with the chiseled pecs and rakish smile can't be more than a fantasy. Business major Brent has always played by the rules. But his vision of the future is shattered when his girlfriend dumps him without warning. Even more confusing, he's developing feelings for Waseem unlike anything he's ever known. Brent isn't gay. So why do his friend's dark, smoldering eyes and infectious laugh stir this strange, new desire in him? It's an attraction Brent can't deny—and a fire quickly blazes between them. But Brent's conservative family will never accept his orientation. When the truth comes out, Brent's world is thrown into chaos. Will he give in to the pressure to forget Waseem? Or will he give up everything to be with the man he loves? These steamy friends-to-lovers, straight-to-bi M/M romance novels are for a mature audience. They each have a happy ending and no cliffhanger.

Book Women s American Football

Download or read book Women s American Football written by Russ Crawford and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2022-11 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tackle football has been primarily viewed as a male sport, but at a time when men’s participation rates are decreasing, an increasing number of women are entering the gridiron—and they have a long history of doing so. Women’s American Football is a narrative history of girls and women participating in American football in the United States since the 1920s, when a women’s team played at halftime during an early NFL game. The women’s game became more organized in 1974, when the National Women’s Football League was established, with notable teams such as the Dallas Bluebonnets, Toledo Troopers, Oklahoma City Dolls, and Detroit Demons. Today there are two main professional leagues in the United States: the Women’s Football Alliance, with nearly seventy teams, and the Women’s National Football Conference, with eighteen, in addition to a number of smaller leagues. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the NFL have recently begun sponsoring flag football teams at the college level, and the game is growing for high school girls as well. In 2021 more than two thousand girls played on mostly boys’ teams, and there are currently four all-girls leagues in the United States and Canada, in Manitoba, Utah, Indiana, and New Brunswick. In addition to the rapid growth of women playing football, there have been advancements in other areas of the game. Beginning with Jennifer Welter in 2015, several women have earned positions coaching the professional game. In 2020 ESPN aired Born to Play, a documentary on the Boston Renegades, the 2019 champion of the Women’s Football Alliance. Based on extensive interviews with women players and focusing closely on leagues, teams, and athletes since the passage of Title IX in 1972, Russ Crawford illuminates the rich history of the women who have played football, breaking barriers on and off the field.

Book Women s Football in Africa

Download or read book Women s Football in Africa written by Chuka Onwumechili and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-07-09 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to take an in-depth look at women’s football in Africa. Exploring the history, contemporary landscape, and future development of the women’s game on the African continent, this book offers an important new perspective on the rise of women’s sport more broadly. This book traces the history of women’s soccer in Africa from its introduction during the period of European colonization and its subsequent ban by colonial authorities, through to the present day period of rapidly increasing spectatorship, rising participation rates, and growing media interest. It reflects on the social obstacles to girls’ participation, including sociocultural and religious barriers, as well as important social issues in football such as homophobia, discrimination, and abuse, and considers why certain countries have dominated African competitions, including Nigeria, Ghana, and, lately, South Africa, Equitorial Guinea, and Cameroon. This book also examines the crucial role played by youth academies, and FIFA’s leadership role, and considers the challenges faced by African players, clubs, and countries on the global stage. This is fascinating reading for anybody with an interest in football, sport history, women’s sport, Africa, development studies, or the relationships between sport and wider society.
