Book Lionel Lincoln Or the Leaguer of Boston Complete in One Volume Historical Novel

Download or read book Lionel Lincoln Or the Leaguer of Boston Complete in One Volume Historical Novel written by James Fenimore Cooper and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-07-06 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lionel Lincoln is a historical novel by James Fenimore Cooper, first published in 1825. Set in the American Revolutionary War, the novel follows Lionel Lincoln, a Boston-born American of British noble descent who goes to England and returns a British soldier, and is forced to deal with the split loyalties in his family and friends to the American colonies and the British homeland. At the end of the novel, he returns to England with his wife Cecil, another American born cousin. The novel was originally conceived as part of a 13 volume series of historical novels by Cooper; however, he was generally dissatisfied with his work as a historical novelist. Both contemporary and modern critics regard the novel as one of the poorest novels written by Cooper. Background After the success of The Spy, The Pioneers, and The Pilot, Cooper intended to try his hand at historical fiction with a series of 13 novels called Legends of the Thirteen Republics, wishing to reflect on the role of each colony in the revolution in each novel. However, Lionel Lincoln was the first and last of the novels to be written and published. Generally, Cooper was disappointed with the reception of his novel by the American audience and dissatisfied with his first attempt at historical fiction. James Fenimore Cooper (September 15, 1789 - September 15, 1851) was a prolific and popular American writer of the early 19th century. His historical romances of frontier and Indian life in the early American days created a unique form of American literature. He lived most of his life in Cooperstown, New York, which was founded by his father William on property that he owned. Cooper was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and, in his later years, contributed generously to it.He attended Yale University for three years, where he was a member of the Linonian Society, but was expelled for misbehavior. Before embarking on his career as a writer, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Midshipman, which greatly influenced many of his novels and other writings. The novel that launched his career was The Spy, a tale about counterespionage set during the Revolutionary War and published in 1821. He also wrote numerous sea stories, and his best-known works are five historical novels of the frontier period known as the Leatherstocking Tales. Among naval historians, Cooper's works on the early U.S. Navy have been well received, but they were sometimes criticized by his contemporaries. Among his most famous works is the Romantic novel The Last of the Mohicans, often regarded as his masterpiece.

This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lionel Lincoln, or the Leaguer of Boston IN this tale there are-one or two slight anachronisms, which, if unnoticed, might, with literal readers, draw some unpleasant imputations on its veracity - They relate rather to persons than to things. As they are believed to be quite in character, connected with circumstances much more probable than facts, and to possess all the harmony of poetic coloring, the author is utterly unable to discover the reason why they are not true. He leaves the knotty point to the instinctive sagacity of the critics. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
