Book Rethinking Himalaya Its Scope and Protection

Download or read book Rethinking Himalaya Its Scope and Protection written by KULBHUSHAN SHARMA and published by Blue Rose Publishers. This book was released on 2022-01-11 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Himalaya has profoundly shaped the cultures of the Indian subcontinent, with many Himalayan peaks considered sacred in Hinduism and Buddhism. Some of the world's major rivers – the Indus, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra rise in the Himalayas. These rivers have abundant seasonal and annual water supply. The mountain ranges and river basins share trans-boundary connectedness. Still, mountain people living on hills have limited access to water for drinking and agriculture. Covering around 27% of the Earth’s land surface, the mountains contribute to the sustenance and wellbeing of over half the human population for water, food, and clean energy. Yet mountains are under threat from climate change, land degradation, overexploitation, and natural disasters, with potentially far-reaching and devastating consequences, both for mountain communities and downstream populations. The book covers interdisciplinary domains of science, humanities and commerce, hence beneficial for all types of readers equally. Promotion of awareness and education on conservation and sustainable utilization of bioresources and strengthening networks, coordination with the help of central government departments, state governments, NGOs and local institutions is urgently needed.

Book excerpt: From the author of the timeless classic Roses Have Thorns, don’t miss this heart-stopping, sweeping saga, perfect for fans of Anna Jacobs, Rita Bradshaw and Diney Costeloe. She’s faced danger – but can she survive to win her freedom? As the daughter of a disgraced British army officer and a Hungarian countess, Eve Courtney is born to gentry. Raised in colonial India, since her mother’s tragic death Eve has lived with her father in blissful ignorance of the conventions of the Empire. When her father passes, Eve travels to England, under the guardianship of her tyrannical grandfather's lawyers. She flees to Scotland, in search of her long-lost aunt. There she finds only a temporary reprieve, and before long is reliant on her survival instincts. In creating a fresh identity, Eve hopes to gain her independence once and for all. But when her new life brings her dangerously close to someone who could uncover her secret, she must make the ultimate choice: survival – or love? Beverley Hughesdon was the much-loved author of Roses Have Thorns, Silver Fountains, and Song of Songs. Eve, her final novel, was discovered after her death, and is available here for the first time.

Book The Trees Called igru Moringa Sp Along with a Study of the Drugs Used in Errhines

Download or read book The Trees Called igru Moringa Sp Along with a Study of the Drugs Used in Errhines written by Jan Meulenbeld and published by Barkhuis. This book was released on 2009 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research on the Ayurvedic materia medica, in particular its drugs of plant origin, is a venture bristling with pitfalls despite the apparent confidence displayed in the lists of botanical identifications of medicinal plants in numerous publications on the subject. This self-assurance is unwarranted in quite a few cases, as this study will demonstrate. The majority of these lists of botanical equivalents of Sanskrit plant names are not based on own research; instead, they usually reflect a consensus reached somehow among Indian ayurvedic scholars. The course of events that resulted in this agreement remains uninvestigated. Setting aside the role of leading authorities and trend-setting publications, one of the factors involved may be the significance of a seemingly trustworthy and scientifically-looking pharmacopoeia for the Indian ayurvedici in their competition with western medicine. In this respect the developments referred to are understandable. From a strictly scientific point of view caution is required. When trying to take stock of the situation, one's attention is arrested by the prevalence of North-Indian influences and opinions in the secondary literature on the Indian materia medica. The concurrence mentioned is a North-Indian product that may be looked upon as an artefact since regional differences in the identifications tend to be disregarded. Though exceptions do occur, most often books by authors hailing from northern India fail to pay attention to the plants employed under the same Sanskrit names in southern India and areas such as, for instance, Gujarat and Orissa.

Book The Earthwise Herbal Repertory

Download or read book The Earthwise Herbal Repertory written by Matthew Wood and published by North Atlantic Books. This book was released on 2016-10-11 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Discover the healing applications of a wide variety of medicinal plants with this first comprehensive herbal repertory from an internationally known herbalist Expert herbalist Matthew Wood takes the guesswork out of the application of medicinal plants. Here, he provides an invaluable cross-reference of constitutional types, energetic categories, and specific systems—so herbalists can more easily identify the right remedies for a specific condition. Unlike many reference books in which medicinal plants are defined simply by condition or disease name, this book offers tools for differentiating between remedies and analyzing each case in a holistic fashion. While this system of cross-referencing is well known to homeopaths, it is less frequently used by herbalists. The Earthwise Herbal Repertory seeks to bridge the gap between different healing systems, incorporating knowledge from ancient Greek and traditional Native American medicine, nineteenth-century botanical medicine, homeopathy, and modern biomedical research. This definitive repertory proves useful for homeopaths and herbalists, professionals and home practitioners alike.
