Download or read book Attraction Explained written by Viren Swami and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-12-22 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How much does appearance matter in the formation of romantic relationships? Do nice guys always finish last? Does playing hard-to-get ever work? What really makes for a good chat-up line? When it comes to relationships, theres no shortage of advice from self-help experts, pick-up artists, and glossy magazines. But modern-day myths of attraction often have no basis in fact or worse are rooted in little more than misogyny. In 'Attraction Explained', psychologist Viren Swami debunks these myths and draws on cutting-edge research to provide a ground-breaking and evidence-based account of relationship formation. At the core of this book is a very simple idea: there are no laws of attraction, no foolproof methods or strategies for getting someone to date you. But this isn't to say that theres nothing to be gained from studying attraction. Based on science rather than self-help cliches, Attraction Explained looks at how factors such as geography, appearance, personality, and similarity affect who we fall for and why.

Download or read book Extreme Attraction written by Tom Fagan and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2005-12 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extreme Attraction begins when a young man writes to an attractive newscaster and receives a positive response. At about this time an alluring bank teller pursues him and begins a romantic affair. Startled by the arrival of two attractive women into his life author Tom Fagan manifests a considerate character by setting the example for respectful treatment of women, putting their desires ahead of his own, proceeding with only what the women want, never acting against their free will. Within a few days the newscaster has her secretary call Tom and ask him what he wants to say, and the bank teller calls him and asks him what he wants to do. A twist of fate, losing some money orders, brings Tom and the bank teller together. At the same time the newscaster has the effect of reawakening Tom's creative powers so intensely that the beach in Belmont Shore turns into a table of ideas for writing. The transforming effect the two women have on Tom-the newscaster heightening his creative talents and the bank teller heightening his passion for kindness-form the basis for a revelation of the magnanimity that should accompany love.

Download or read book The Poetry of Gottfried Benn written by Martin Travers and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2007 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first comprehensive study of Gottfried Benn's poetry to appear in English. It covers the entirety of Benn's verse, from his early Morgue cycle (1912) and Expressionist poems through to the «anthropological» poetry of his middle period to the «postmodern» Phase II work after the Second World War. Against the background of the poet's theoretical writings, this study, drawing upon the classic texts of Benn scholarship, analyzes in detail the major themes of his verse and its distinctive idiom. In particular, this work focuses on Gottfried Benn's extended process of rhetorical self-fashioning, his use of classical iconography, color motifs and chiffres, his often confusing historical semantics, the seemingly self-constituting «absolute» poem, and the colloquial idiom of his late verse. The book also engages with the multiplicity of voices in Benn's work and their varied textual forms, the hermeneutically variable positions of speech that they articulate and the often contradictory notion of selfhood to which they give rise.
