Book Wing Theory in Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Wing Theory in Supersonic Flow written by Elie Carafoli and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Division II: Aerodynamics, Volume 7: Wing Theory in Supersonic Flow examines the cases of isolated simple wings, wings with vertical plane tail, cruciform wings, and simple or cruciform wings fitted with a body. This book presents the method for the actual calculation of isolated wings or of more complex system. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the basic equations in the mechanics of inviscid fluids. This text then presents a unified theory that is established for angularly shaped wings in supersonic flow. Other chapters consider the method for calculating the characteristics of drag, lift, and moments for various shapes of the trailing edge line. This book discusses as well the wings of ordinary shapes, delta wings, yawed wings, polygonal wings, trapezoid wings, and arrow-head or swept-back wings. The final chapter deals with a delta wing with a central fusiform body. This book is a valuable resource for teachers, students, and specialists engaged in modern aerodynamics.

Book Damping in Roll of Cruciform and Some Related Delta Wings at Supersonic Speeds

Download or read book Damping in Roll of Cruciform and Some Related Delta Wings at Supersonic Speeds written by Herbert S. Ribner and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The damping in roll of cruciform delta wings in supersonic flow has been evaluated by means of small-disturbance (linearized) wing theory; both subsonic and supersonic component stream velocities normal to the leading edges have been considered. In addition, some known two-dimensional results for rotating multibladed laminae have been applied to obtain the loading when the number of panels is changed from four to an arbitrary number, under the restriction of low aspect ratio; the damping in roll has been determined explicitly for three panels. Finally, the damping for an inifinite number of panels has been evaluated without restriction as to aspect ratio or Mach number.

Book Supersonic Lift Solutions Obtained by Extending the Simple Linearized Conical Flow Theory

Download or read book Supersonic Lift Solutions Obtained by Extending the Simple Linearized Conical Flow Theory written by T. F. Coleman and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results of the linearized conical supersonic flow theory for flat plate wings are extended to the treatment of certain planforms which cannot be solved by the simple methods of superposition previously described. The method described in the report is applicable to wings with subsonic trailing edges (within certain limitations) and to regions in which the flow is affected by more than one disturbance. Solutions are obtained by superposing conical flow fields resulting from elementary wings with certain special properties, to the basic wings required; this superposition is accomplished by integrating the contribution of an infinite number of such elementary wings, plus the contributions from the basic wings obtained in the usual manner. The elementary wings used are chosen in such a way that the boundary conditions of the wing to be solved are satisfied by the integrated solution. The method is applied to obtain expressions for the pressure distributions on a low aspect ratio rectangular wing, a triangular wing with cut-off wing tips, and a diamond wing. (Author).

Book Some Conical and Quasi conical Flows in Linearized Supersonic wing Theory

Download or read book Some Conical and Quasi conical Flows in Linearized Supersonic wing Theory written by Herbert S. Ribner and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A number of conical and quasi-conical linearized supersonic flows have been derived. These flows may be applied in lift-cancellation techniques in the determination of wing-lift disturbances that arise at subsonic trailing edges. Some of the results are applied to damping in roll and pitch in another paper. The two methods of analysis employed both use source distribution and lead to integral equations. One is a development of the membrane method of Evvard; the other is an analog of the superposition method of Schlichting.

Book The Calculation of Downwash Behind Supersonic Wings with an Application to Triangular Plan Forms

Download or read book The Calculation of Downwash Behind Supersonic Wings with an Application to Triangular Plan Forms written by Maxwell Alfred Heaslet and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is developed, consistent with the assumptions of small perturbation theory, which provides a means of determining for a known load distribution, the downwash behind a wing in supersonic flow. THe analysis is based upon the use of supersonic doublets which are distributed over the plan form and wake of the wing in a manner determined from the wing loading.

Book Generalized Conical flow Fields in Supersonic Wing Theory

Download or read book Generalized Conical flow Fields in Supersonic Wing Theory written by Harvard Lomax and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linearized, compressible-flow analysis is applied to the study of quasi-conical supersonic wing theory. Single-integral equations are derived which relate either the loading to the shape of a lifting surface or the thickness of a symmetrical wing to the pressure distribution for triangular wings to the pressure distribution for triangular wings with subsonic leading edges. The forms of these equations and their inversions are simplified thorugh the introduction of the finite part and the generalized part of an integral. Applications to the theory, in the lifting case, include previously known results. In the non-lifing case, it is shown that for a specified pressure distribution the theory does not always predict a unique thickness distribution. This is demonstrated for a triangular plan form having a constant pressure gradient in the stream direction.
