Book Linear Dynamical Systems on Hilbert Spaces Typical Properties and Explicit Examples

Download or read book Linear Dynamical Systems on Hilbert Spaces Typical Properties and Explicit Examples written by S. Grivaux and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2021-06-21 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We solve a number of questions pertaining to the dynamics of linear operators on Hilbert spaces, sometimes by using Baire category arguments and sometimes by constructing explicit examples. In particular, we prove the following results. (i) A typical hypercyclic operator is not topologically mixing, has no eigen-values and admits no non-trivial invariant measure, but is densely distri-butionally chaotic. (ii) A typical upper-triangular operator with coefficients of modulus 1 on the diagonal is ergodic in the Gaussian sense, whereas a typical operator of the form “diagonal with coefficients of modulus 1 on the diagonal plus backward unilateral weighted shift” is ergodic but has only countably many unimodular eigenvalues; in particular, it is ergodic but not ergodic in the Gaussian sense. (iii) There exist Hilbert space operators which are chaotic and U-frequently hypercyclic but not frequently hypercyclic, Hilbert space operators which are chaotic and frequently hypercyclic but not ergodic, and Hilbert space operators which are chaotic and topologically mixing but not U-frequently hypercyclic. We complement our results by investigating the descriptive complexity of some natural classes of operators defined by dynamical properties.

Book Methods Of Hilbert Spaces In The Theory Of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Methods Of Hilbert Spaces In The Theory Of Nonlinear Dynamical Systems written by Krzysztof Kowalski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-07-26 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first monograph on a new powerful method discovered by the author for the study of nonlinear dynamical systems relying on reduction of nonlinear differential equations to the linear abstract Schrödinger-like equation in Hilbert space. Besides the possibility of unification of many apparently completely different techniques, the “quantal” Hilbert space formalism introduced enables new original methods to be discovered for solving nonlinear problems arising in investigation of ordinary and partial differential equations as well as difference equations. Applications covered in the book include symmetries and first integrals, linearization transformations, Bäcklund transformations, stroboscopic maps, functional equations involving the case of Feigenbaum-Cvitanovic renormalization equations and chaos.

Book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems And Carleman Linearization

Download or read book Nonlinear Dynamical Systems And Carleman Linearization written by Krzysztof Kowalski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-03-26 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Carleman linearization has become a new powerful tool in the study of nonlinear dynamical systems. Nevertheless, there is the general lack of familiarity with the Carleman embedding technique among those working in the field of nonlinear models. This book provides a systematic presentation of the Carleman linearization, its generalizations and applications. It also includes a review of existing alternative methods for linearization of nonlinear dynamical systems. There are probably no books covering such a wide spectrum of linearization algorithms. This book also gives a comprehensive introduction to the Kronecker product of matrices, whereas most books deal with it only superficially. The Kronecker product of matrices plays an important role in mathematics and in applications found in theoretical physics.

Book Nonsmooth Lyapunov Analysis in Finite and Infinite Dimensions

Download or read book Nonsmooth Lyapunov Analysis in Finite and Infinite Dimensions written by Yury Orlov and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-08 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonsmooth Lyapunov Analysis in Finite and Infinite Dimensions provides helpful tools for the treatment of a broad class of dynamical systems that are governed, not only by ordinary differential equations but also by partial and functional differential equations. Existing Lyapunov constructions are extended to discontinuous systems—those with variable structure and impact—by the involvement of nonsmooth Lyapunov functions. The general theoretical presentation is illustrated by control-related applications; the nonsmooth Lyapunov construction is particularly applied to the tuning of sliding-mode controllers in the presence of mismatched disturbances and to orbital stabilization of the bipedal gate. The nonsmooth construction is readily extendible to the control and identification of distributed-parameter and time-delay systems. The first part of the book outlines the relevant fundamentals of benchmark models and mathematical basics. The second concentrates on the construction of nonsmooth Lyapunov functions. Part III covers design and applications material. This book will benefit the academic research and graduate student interested in the mathematics of Lyapunov equations and variable-structure control, stability analysis and robust feedback design for discontinuous systems. It will also serve the practitioner working with applications of such systems. The reader should have some knowledge of dynamical systems theory, but no background in discontinuous systems is required—they are thoroughly introduced in both finite- and infinite-dimensional settings.

Book excerpt: Dynamical Systems compiles the lectures and contributed papers read at the International Symposium on Dynamical Systems held at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida on March 24-26, 1976. This book discusses the principle of exchange of stability; weak-invariance and rest points in control systems; local controllability in nonlinear systems; and unitary treatment of various types of systems in stability-theory. The optimization of structural geometry; dispersal manifolds in partial differential games; remarks on existence theorems for Pareto optimality; and stability of solutions bifurcating from steady or periodic solutions are also elaborated. This compilation likewise covers the linear neutral functional differential equations on a Banach space; radiation reaction in electrodynamics; and buckling of cylindrical shells with small curvature. This publication is beneficial to students and researchers working on dynamical systems.

Book Dynamical Systems and Evolution Equations

Download or read book Dynamical Systems and Evolution Equations written by John A. Walker and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book grew out of a nine-month course first given during 1976-77 in the Division of Engineering Mechanics, University of Texas (Austin), and repeated during 1977-78 in the Department of Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics, Northwestern University. Most of the students were in their second year of graduate study, and all were familiar with Fourier series, Lebesgue integration, Hilbert space, and ordinary differential equa tions in finite-dimensional space. This book is primarily an exposition of certain methods of topological dynamics that have been found to be very useful in the analysis of physical systems but appear to be well known only to specialists. The purpose of the book is twofold: to present the material in such a way that the applications-oriented reader will be encouraged to apply these methods in the study of those physical systems of personal interest, and to make the coverage sufficient to render the current research literature intelligible, preparing the more mathematically inclined reader for research in this particular area of applied mathematics. We present only that portion of the theory which seems most useful in applications to physical systems. Adopting the view that the world is deterministic, we consider our basic problem to be predicting the future for a given physical system. This prediction is to be based on a known equation of evolution, describing the forward-time behavior of the system, but it is to be made without explicitly solving the equation.

Book Infinite Dimensional Dynamical Systems

Download or read book Infinite Dimensional Dynamical Systems written by James C. Robinson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2001-04-23 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats the theory of global attractors, a recent development in the theory of partial differential equations, in a way that also includes much of the traditional elements of the subject. As such it gives a quick but directed introduction to some fundamental concepts, and by the end proceeds to current research problems. Since the subject is relatively new, this is the first book to attempt to treat these various topics in a unified and didactic way. It is intended to be suitable for first year graduate students.

Book Partial Dynamical Systems Fell Bundles and Applications

Download or read book Partial Dynamical Systems Fell Bundles and Applications written by Ruy Exel and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2017-09-20 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Partial dynamical systems, originally developed as a tool to study algebras of operators in Hilbert spaces, has recently become an important branch of algebra. Its most powerful results allow for understanding structural properties of algebras, both in the purely algebraic and in the C*-contexts, in terms of the dynamical properties of certain systems which are often hiding behind algebraic structures. The first indication that the study of an algebra using partial dynamical systems may be helpful is the presence of a grading. While the usual theory of graded algebras often requires gradings to be saturated, the theory of partial dynamical systems is especially well suited to treat nonsaturated graded algebras which are in fact the source of the notion of “partiality”. One of the main results of the book states that every graded algebra satisfying suitable conditions may be reconstructed from a partial dynamical system via a process called the partial crossed product. Running in parallel with partial dynamical systems, partial representations of groups are also presented and studied in depth. In addition to presenting main theoretical results, several specific examples are analyzed, including Wiener–Hopf algebras and graph C*-algebras.

Book Dynamical Systems Method and Applications

Download or read book Dynamical Systems Method and Applications written by Alexander G. Ramm and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-06-07 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demonstrates the application of DSM to solve a broad range of operator equations The dynamical systems method (DSM) is a powerful computational method for solving operator equations. With this book as their guide, readers will master the application of DSM to solve a variety of linear and nonlinear problems as well as ill-posed and well-posed problems. The authors offer a clear, step-by-step, systematic development of DSM that enables readers to grasp the method's underlying logic and its numerous applications. Dynamical Systems Method and Applications begins with a general introduction and then sets forth the scope of DSM in Part One. Part Two introduces the discrepancy principle, and Part Three offers examples of numerical applications of DSM to solve a broad range of problems in science and engineering. Additional featured topics include: General nonlinear operator equations Operators satisfying a spectral assumption Newton-type methods without inversion of the derivative Numerical problems arising in applications Stable numerical differentiation Stable solution to ill-conditioned linear algebraic systems Throughout the chapters, the authors employ the use of figures and tables to help readers grasp and apply new concepts. Numerical examples offer original theoretical results based on the solution of practical problems involving ill-conditioned linear algebraic systems, and stable differentiation of noisy data. Written by internationally recognized authorities on the topic, Dynamical Systems Method and Applications is an excellent book for courses on numerical analysis, dynamical systems, operator theory, and applied mathematics at the graduate level. The book also serves as a valuable resource for professionals in the fields of mathematics, physics, and engineering.

Book A Primer on Hilbert Space Theory

Download or read book A Primer on Hilbert Space Theory written by Carlo Alabiso and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an essential introduction to the theory of Hilbert space, a fundamental tool for non-relativistic quantum mechanics. Linear, topological, metric, and normed spaces are all addressed in detail, in a rigorous but reader-friendly fashion. The rationale for providing an introduction to the theory of Hilbert space, rather than a detailed study of Hilbert space theory itself, lies in the strenuous mathematics demands that even the simplest physical cases entail. Graduate courses in physics rarely offer enough time to cover the theory of Hilbert space and operators, as well as distribution theory, with sufficient mathematical rigor. Accordingly, compromises must be found between full rigor and the practical use of the instruments. Based on one of the authors’s lectures on functional analysis for graduate students in physics, the book will equip readers to approach Hilbert space and, subsequently, rigged Hilbert space, with a more practical attitude. It also includes a brief introduction to topological groups, and to other mathematical structures akin to Hilbert space. Exercises and solved problems accompany the main text, offering readers opportunities to deepen their understanding. The topics and their presentation have been chosen with the goal of quickly, yet rigorously and effectively, preparing readers for the intricacies of Hilbert space. Consequently, some topics, e.g., the Lebesgue integral, are treated in a somewhat unorthodox manner. The book is ideally suited for use in upper undergraduate and lower graduate courses, both in Physics and in Mathematics.
