Book Linear Algebra and Its Applications with R

Download or read book Linear Algebra and Its Applications with R written by Ruriko Yoshida and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-06-27 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book developed from the need to teach a linear algebra course to students focused on data science and bioinformatics programs. These students tend not to realize the importance of linear algebra in applied sciences, since traditional linear algebra courses tend to cover mathematical contexts but not the computational aspect of linear algebra or its applications to data science and bioinformatics. The author presents the topics in a traditional course, yet offers lectures as well as lab exercises on simulated and empirical data sets. This textbook provides students a theoretical basis which can then be applied to the practical R and Python problems, providing the tools needed for real-world applications. Each section starts with working examples to demonstrate how tools from linear algebra can help solve problems in applied sciences. These exercises start from easy computations, such as computing determinants of matrices, to practical applications on simulated and empirical data sets with R so that students learn how to get started with R, along with computational examples in each section, and then students learn how to apply what they've learned to problems in applied sciences. This book is designed from first principles to demonstrate the importance of linear algebra through working computational examples with R and Python, including tutorials on how to install R in the Appendix. If a student has never seen R, they can get started without any additional help. Since Python is one of the most popular languages in data science, optimization, and computer science, code supplements are available for students who feel more comfortable with Python. R is used primarily for computational examples to develop students’ practical computational skills. About the Author: Dr. Ruriko Yoshida is an Associate Professor of Operations Research at the Naval Postgraduate School. She received her PhD in Mathematics from the University of California, Davis. Her research topics cover a wide variety of areas: applications of algebraic combinatorics to statistical problems such as statistical learning on non-Euclidean spaces, sensor networks, phylogenetics, and phylogenomics. She teaches courses in statistics, stochastic models, probability, and data science.

Book Linear Algebra with Machine Learning and Data

Download or read book Linear Algebra with Machine Learning and Data written by Crista Arangala and published by Textbooks in Mathematics. This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook attempts to revolutionize the Advanced Linear Algebra course by offering the integration of data analysis through case studies. Many schools are trying to find ways to incorporate data analysis into the undergrad math curriculum. The author presents a real alternative to standard textbooks. The use of case studies to demonstrate how linear algebra can be used in data analysis separates this text from all others currently available from any major publisher.

Book Linear Algebra in Action

Download or read book Linear Algebra in Action written by Harry Dym and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2007 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linear algebra permeates mathematics, perhaps more so than any other single subject. It plays an essential role in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, and many aspects of physics and engineering. This book conveys in a user-friendly way the basic and advanced techniques of linear algebra from the point of view of a working analyst. The techniques are illustrated by a wide sample of applications and examples that are chosen to highlight the tools of the trade. In short, this is material that the author wishes he had been taught as a graduate student. Roughly the first third of the book covers the basic material of a first course in linear algebra. The remaining chapters are devoted to applications drawn from vector calculus, numerical analysis, control theory, complex analysis, convexity and functional analysis. In particular, fixed point theorems, extremal problems, matrix equations, zero location and eigenvalue location problems, and matrices with nonnegative entries are discussed. Appendices on useful facts from analysis and supplementary information from complex function theory are also provided for the convenience of the reader. The book is suitable as a text or supplementary reference for a variety of courses on linear algebra and its applications, as well as for self-study.

Book Mathematics for Engineers and Science Labs Using Maxima

Download or read book Mathematics for Engineers and Science Labs Using Maxima written by Seifedine Kadry and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-02-21 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to be a vital companion to math textbooks covering the topics of precalculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and probability and statistics. While these existing textbooks focus mainly on solving mathematic problems using the old paper-and-pencil method, this book teaches how to solve these problems using Maxima open-source software. Maxima is a system for the manipulation of symbolic and numerical expressions, including differentiation, integration, Taylor series, Laplace transforms, ordinary differential equations, systems of linear equations, polynomials, sets, lists, vectors, and matrices. One of the benefits of using Maxima to solve mathematics problems is the immediacy with which it produces answers. Investing in learning Maxima now will pay off in the future, particularly for students and beginning professionals in mathematics, science, and engineering. The volume will help readers to apply nearly all of the Maxima skills discussed here to future courses and research.

Book Essential Linear Algebra with Applications

Download or read book Essential Linear Algebra with Applications written by Titu Andreescu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-14 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rooted in a pedagogically successful problem-solving approach to linear algebra, the present work fills a gap in the literature that is sharply divided between elementary texts and books that are too advanced to appeal to a wide audience. It clearly develops the theoretical foundations of vector spaces, linear equations, matrix algebra, eigenvectors, and orthogonality, while simultaneously emphasizing applications and connections to fields such as biology, economics, computer graphics, electrical engineering, cryptography, and political science. Ideal as an introduction to linear algebra, the extensive exercises and well-chosen applications also make this text suitable for advanced courses at the junior or senior undergraduate level. Furthermore, it can serve as a colorful supplementary problem book, reference, or self-study manual for professional scientists and mathematicians. Complete with bibliography and index, "Essential Linear Algebra with Applications" is a natural bridge between pure and applied mathematics and the natural and social sciences, appropriate for any student or researcher who needs a strong footing in the theory, problem-solving, and model-building that are the subject’s hallmark.

Book Problems and Theorems in Linear Algebra

Download or read book Problems and Theorems in Linear Algebra written by Viktor Vasil_evich Prasolov and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1994-06-13 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are a number of very good books available on linear algebra. However, new results in linear algebra appear constantly, as do new, simpler, and better proofs of old results. Many of these results and proofs obtained in the past thirty years are accessible to undergraduate mathematics majors, but are usually ignored by textbooks. In addition, more than a few interesting old results are not covered in many books. In this book, the author provides the basics of linear algebra, with an emphasis on new results and on nonstandard and interesting proofs. The book features about 230 problems with complete solutions. It can serve as a supplementary text for an undergraduate or graduate algebra course.
