Book excerpt: Resumen: Se desarrollo un trabajo de grado con el fin de proponer lineamientos para una Estrategia de Mitigación Corporativa de Gases de Efecto Invernadero aplicado a los provedores de servicios logísticos de transporte en el sector empresarial, tomando como caso de estudio la empresa Transportes Alliance y Cartones Finos de Colombia S.A uno de sus clientes mas importantes. Durante el proceso se realizó la caracterización de la operación logística prestada y el parque automotor usado en el año 2014, se establecio la línea base de emisiones de Gases de Efecto Invernadero (GEI) para este mismo año y por último se propusieron lineamientos de gestión que entran a formar parte de la estrategia de mitigación corporativa. Se tomó como referencia para la construcción del enfoque metodologico la guía internacional "Protocolo de Gases de Efecto Invernadero" elaborada por el Instituto De Recursos Mundiales, el Consejo Empresarial Mundial Para el Desarrollo Sostenible (WRI y WBCSD por sus siglas en ingles) y la Secretaria de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales de lo Estados Unidos de México SEMARNAT; permitiendo la contabilidad y reporte de 3 gases de efecto invernadero (CO2, CH4 y NO2) previstos por el protocolo de Kioto con mayor impacto en el calentamiento global. Como principal resultado se encontró que es posible a partir de la implementación de la Estrategia de Mitigación Corporativa de Gases de Efecto Invernadero disminuir en un 64% las emisiones de GEI para la operación logística tomando como referencia el año 2014 por la empresa Transportes Alliance. El trabajo finaliza con diferentes propuestas de compensación para el CO2 equivalente residual que no se puede mitigar a través de la estrategia .

El transporte, además, puede tener un papel clave en combatir el cambio climático a través de la reducción de emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero (GEI), puesto que el sector tiene relevante participación en las GEI mundiales. El transporte urbano, en particular, genera externalidades negativas y beneficios con una potencialidad de afectar a un volumen muy elevado de la población mundial. Debido a la relevancia que el sector analizado tiene desde la perspectiva de las emisiones de GEI y de otros gases y partículas generadores de contaminación local, también dicho sector ofrece un alto potencial para incorporar medidas de mitigación al cambio climático. Así, este trabajo se enmarca en las medidas de mitigación del cambio climático para el transporte urbano. Para ello, la investigación ha centrado su observación en la región de América Latina (AL), una de las regiones más urbanizadas del planeta y donde el transporte urbano es particularmente relevante por diversos factores entre los que se incluyen algunos de carácter económico, social, ambiental y tecnológico. El sector ofrece buenas oportunidades para contribuir eficazmente a los objetivos de reducción de emisiones de GEI en la región, emisiones que se estima que van a doblar su participación en las emisiones globales en veinte años. También se ha considerado que las medidas de reducción de emisiones podrían apoyar una transformación del transporte urbano orientándolo hacia una mayor sostenibilidad, toda vez que las actuales tendencias en AL indican un fuerte aumento del uso de modos de transporte no sostenible en los últimos años...

El estudio permite identificar los sectores económicos que son responsables de estas emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero y que, además, presentan importantes encadenamientos con otras ramas de la producción, de manera que la implementación de este tipo de cambios genere los mayores beneficios posibles a lo largo de la economía de cada país. Así, con base en el uso de las matrices de insumo-producto para Argentina y Brasil, se han podido identificar que los sectores agrícola, energético y de transporte son clave para abatir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero y son los que, a su vez, difunden sus efectos favorables al resto de la economía. En este sentido, pueden ser considerados como sectores estratégicos que requieren de un cambio tecnológico inmediato.
