Book Archival Information

Download or read book Archival Information written by Steven Fisher and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2004-03-30 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From original manuscripts and letters to sound recordings and birth certificates, archival information plays an increasingly important role in modern research. Libraries and the Internet have made finding information on a wide range of topics faster and easier, but not all information—particularly from primary sources—is available via local library branches or online resources. Using archival information presents its own challenges. Materials are often located in many different places: public or academic libraries, government agencies, historical societies, or museums. They are usually kept in secured areas where the public is restricted from browsing. This definitive guide shows novice and experienced researchers how to find archival information. It provides tips on how to use archival materials effectively and efficiently. Topics covered include government archives, science and technology collections, military archives, genealogical records, business and corporate archives, performing arts archives, and sports collections. Also provided is an overview of the world of archives, including archival terminology, how to contact archives, and archival etiquette. Whether searching for a noted author's original manuscripts, trying to locate presidential papers, or tracking down a repository of oral histories, Archival Information is an indispensable reference.

Book Fertility and Faith

Download or read book Fertility and Faith written by Philip Jenkins and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demography drives religious change. High-fertility societies, like most of contemporary Africa, tend to be fervent and devout. The lower a population's fertility rates, the greater the tendency for people to detach from organized or institutional religion. Thus, fertility rates supply an effective gauge of secularization trends. In Fertility and Faith, Philip Jenkins maps the demographic revolution that has taken hold of many countries around the globe in recent decades and explores the implications for the future development of the world's religions. Demographic change has driven the secularization of contemporary Western Europe, where the revolution began. Jenkins shows how the European trajectory of rapid declines in fertility is now affecting much of the globe. The implications are clear: the religious character of many non-European areas is highly likely to move in the direction of sweeping secularization. And this is now reshaping the United States itself. This demographic revolution is reshaping Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, and Judaism. In order to accommodate the new social trends, these religions must adapt to situations where large families are no longer the norm. Each religious tradition will develop distinctive emphases concerning morality, gender, and sexuality, as well as the roles of clergy and laity in the faith's institutional structures. Radical change follows great upheaval. The tidal shift is well underway. With Fertility and Faith, Philip Jenkins describes this ongoing phenomenon and envisions our collective religious future.

Book The Messianic Genealogy of Jesus Christ

Download or read book The Messianic Genealogy of Jesus Christ written by Ayuba Mshelia and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Messianic Line A Succinct Summary of the Book The purpose of this Book is twofold. Its purview is God’s promise to Abraham regarding his seeds and to David regarding his Davidic Messianic patrilineal (that is, male-only) divine line, which was eventually fulfilled through the birth of the Son of God, the MESSIAH, Jesus. Secondly, it attempts to answer the question that results from the differences between the two genealogies in the Gospels of Matthew (1:1-16) and Luke (3:23-38). In order to achieve this mundane but profound objective, we must start with the story of the first couple, Adam and Eve, who lived in the Garden of Eden. Then we proceed to God’s call for Abraham, instructing him to move from Haran to Canaan, “unto a land that I will shew thee”, with a promise to give him a great name, to make him a blessing, to bless those who bless him, and curse those who cursed him and finally to give him the Promised Land and through his descendants to bless all the families of the earth with a Redeemer. (Gen. 12:1-9; Gen. 13:14-17; Gen.15:7, 18; Gen.17:5-8). We will subsequently take a cursory look at Abraham and his descendants/lineage with a return to Adam and Eve. We will trace the lineage of their son Seth directly to Abraham. Given the number of persons involved from Adam to the fulfillment of the two promises, I can only make short and brief references to the quality of the character, shortcomings, and obedience to divine commandments (in the sight of God) of the people considered significant and God’s choices for the lineage of his son, Jesus Christ. In pursuit of uniformity and ease of reading, I’ve adopted Matthew’s descending-order format to present the lineage in both Gospels. In 0fairness to Luke—who presents it in ascending order—I also adopted his genealogy format from Adam (the first earthly man; Gen.1:26) to Jesus (the heavenly/Spiritual man; Luke 1:26-38; cf. Luke 1:18,20,23). In addition, I accept Luke’s coverage of the complete history of God’s redemption beginning with Adam and Eve, not Abraham, for the following reasons: God first showed the path to salvation for a fallen mankind through the promise of the “seed” of the woman: “I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel” (Gen. 3:15). The words “her seed” refer to Jesus Christ, who would be conceived through Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit (Matt. 1:18). Christ came through virgin Mary as a seed of woman and not of man; “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isa. 7:14; cf. Luke 1:30-35). The promise of the woman’s seed was expanded to the covenant with Noah (Gen. 6:18; 9:8-17) and with Abraham (Gen. 12:1-3; 22:15-18). It then developed into the Sinaitic covenant— a conditional covenant of works, written on a stone given to Moses on Mount Sinai (Ex. 24:1-8; Deut. 29:1) whereby God promised to “... forgive their iniquity”(Ex.34:6-7)—and, finally, to the Davidic covenant --- unconditional covenant of grace based on the atoning works of Jesus Christ, where God declared “... But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;...I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord: for they shall all know me... for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jer. 31:31-34; 2 Sam. 7:11-16; 1 Chr. 17:10-14). The important features of the universality of the knowledge of God, vital inwardness of his laws and the fact that “I will remember their sin no more”, that is the full guarantee of forgiveness of sin, are what make the New Covenant unique and superior to the Sinaitic one. All of the above covenants are eternal. They became “promises.” God promised a “seed.” This promise was fulfilled in Jesus Christ, and it was contained in the covenant ratified by God (Gal. 3:16-17). From the foundation of the world, God had a plan for man’s redemption through his only begotten son, Jesus Christ. He manifested this divine plan in sanctified1 human genealogy of a chosen “...to them who are the called according to his purpose...he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren...whom he did predestinate, them he also called; and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified (Rom.8:28-30), until “...when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his son, made of a woman, made under the law...that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Gal. 4:4-5). ____________________________________________ Sanctified—set apart, declare Holy or separate for God’s purposes.

This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume constitutes a new step forward in the study of the Late Bronze Age city of Emar. A multi-ethnic population of Hittites, Assyrians, Egyptians and the north-west Semitic-speaking natives inhabited this port of call situated on the middle Euphrates on the frontier of the Hittite province of Syria, facing Babylonia to the south-east and Assyria to the north-east. It flourished during the last days of this hegemonic power system which was broken by the inroads of the Aramaeans, the Israelites, the Sea Peoples, and the rise of the Phoenician city states in the twelfth century. The tablets published here are in a variety of languages and cover the full range of types of documents found from rituals and cultic inventories to legal documents and payment lists. Each text type is dicussed and parallels to previously published texts are given. Every document is provided with an introduction placing it in its context, a transliteration, translation and philological and textual notes. Furthermore, they are presented in photographs, hand copies and with drawings of all the Hittite and Syrian sealings. These texts provide insights into the political, economic, social and religious life of the critical period of the late thirteenth and early twelfth centuries when the face of the Near East underwent global changes.

Book Coming to Grips With Genesis

Download or read book Coming to Grips With Genesis written by Dr. Terry Mortenson and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2008-10-01 with total page 489 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourteen theological scholars address key topics related to the age of the earth, which is the crucial issue of debate in the church today regarding origins. Bringing to bear rigorous biblical, theological, and historical arguments in favor of a six-day creation, the global Flood, and a young earth, they also provide much-needed critiques of a number of contemporary old-earth interpretations of the book of Genesis. This fresh defense of the literal history of Genesis 1-11 nicely complements other studies which focus more on the scientific evidence of young-earth creationism. As such, this book can serve as a versatile supplement to other works, but is also designed to be used as a standalone text for seminary and Bible college professors and students, pastors, missionaries, and others who want in-depth apologetic resources. Coming to Grips with Genesis: Biblical Authority and the Age of the Earthincludes: Forewords by Dr. John MacArthur, President of the Master's Seminary and Senior Pastor of Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA; and the late Dr. Henry Morris, Founder and President Emeritus, Institute for Creation Research Detailed analysis of the verbs of Genesis 1 A defense of the Genesis 5 & 11 genealogies as strict chronologies Reasons for rejecting millions of years of death and natural evil before Adam's sin Careful reflection on Jesus' teachings regarding a young earth

Book excerpt: My initial interest in the Yates lineage and Fred C. Yates specifically, began at an early age when my mother, Edith Jane (Yates) Riffe, introduced me to the shoebox. I have always thought of it as a shoebox, because it is about that size, but it is actually more of an all purpose box. Mother kept her most prized possessions in it, letters from her father, Fred C. Yates, and a handful of notebooks and documents that had been passed down from him.

Book The Color of God in the Crossroads of War

Download or read book The Color of God in the Crossroads of War written by Longy O. Anyanwu and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2019-01-29 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a faith-based, heartfelt exposition of the Bible truth. It investigates the translational environment of the leading English versions of the Bible and their guiding sources; the age of our universe; the color lineage of Jesus; the role of Africa in the life and ministry of Jesus Christ; and the invisible war at the crossroads of life. It interrogates the intrusions and fundamentality of racism in Christianity in a manner that is at once critical, engaging and persuasive. It shows how such problems stem from the different versions and translations of the holy book that have deliberately sought to present God and His only begotten son Jesus Christ in a Caucasian manner.
