Book Exterior Ballistic Tests of the 56 lb Practice Bomb Mk 89 Mod O with Lug Released from Fj 4b Aircraft Equipped with the Practice Bomb Rack Adapter Aero X4a

Download or read book Exterior Ballistic Tests of the 56 lb Practice Bomb Mk 89 Mod O with Lug Released from Fj 4b Aircraft Equipped with the Practice Bomb Rack Adapter Aero X4a written by C. L. KELLER and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: FREE FLIGHT TESTS OF TWENTY 56-LB. Mk 89 Mod 0 practice bombs with one lug were conducted during 1958. The bombs of these tests were released from a practice bomb rack adapter Aero X4A mounted on an FJ-4B aircraft performing level, dive, and loft maneuvers. The purpose of these tests is to determine whether the Aero X4A rack adversely affects the ballistic characteristics of the Mk 89 Mod 0 practice bomb. On the basis of the results reported herein, it is concluded that: (a) the ballistic data used to compute OP 2787 are applicable to the Mk 89 Mod 0 practice bomb when dropped from the practice bomb rack adapter Aero X4A under the conditions of the tests; (b) the dispersion of the bombs tested is acceptable; and (c) the Mk 89 Mod 0 practice bomb with one lug has good flight characteristics, when dropped from the practice bomb rack adapter Aero X4A under the conditions of the tests. Book Wind Tunnel Tests of Three Candidate MK 82 Snakeye Bomb Replacement Configurations

Download or read book Wind Tunnel Tests of Three Candidate MK 82 Snakeye Bomb Replacement Configurations written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Static and pitch damping moment stability coefficients are presented for three candidate MK 82 Snakeye Bomb replacement configurations as functions of Mach number. The normal force coefficient slope, and the center of pressure are also determined for each design. All coefficients are measured at a Mach number of .13 in the subsonic tunnel of AFATL and at Mach numbers of .5 and .8 in the transonic pilot tunnel of the NSRDC. The restoring moment stability coefficient, normal force coefficient slope, and center of pressure of the fixed fin design are also measured at transonic Mach numbers at AEDC. The inflatable stabilizer retarder configurations are found to have more static and pitch damping stability than the fixed fin design.

Book Sierra Hotel flying Air Force fighters in the decade after Vietnam

Download or read book Sierra Hotel flying Air Force fighters in the decade after Vietnam written by and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In February 1999, only a few weeks before the U.S. Air Force spearheaded NATO's Allied Force air campaign against Serbia, Col. C.R. Anderegg, USAF (Ret.), visited the commander of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe. Colonel Anderegg had known Gen. John Jumper since they had served together as jet forward air controllers in Southeast Asia nearly thirty years earlier. From the vantage point of 1999, they looked back to the day in February 1970, when they first controlled a laser-guided bomb strike. In this book Anderegg takes us from "glimmers of hope" like that one through other major improvements in the Air Force that came between the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. Always central in Anderegg's account of those changes are the people who made them. This is a very personal book by an officer who participated in the transformation he describes so vividly. Much of his story revolves around the Fighter Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base (AFB), Nevada, where he served two tours as an instructor pilot specializing in guided munitions.

Book Engineering the Space Age a Rocket Scientist Remembers

Download or read book Engineering the Space Age a Rocket Scientist Remembers written by Robert Brulle and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rarely is a reader exposed to such an extraordinary, multifaceted presentation of aerospace technology as Bob Brulle narrates in this book. After returning from duty as a combat fighter pilot in World War II, this Belgian immigrant developed a multitalented and innovative aerospace career path that addressed many of the aerospace professions. Along the way he forged a career in the aviation and space field that resulted in his participating in several of the most momentous aerospace achievements of the past century. He also expanded his education through hard work to a level at which he was qualified to teach graduate-level aerospace engineering courses. It is interesting to follow how the analysis and design techniques of aerospace vehicles progressed over the years, which incidentally reveals the large role that the computer played in making that possible. The story on the early Cape Canaveral operations was amusing and showed that enterprising innovations played a large role in a successful undertaking. Some of the projects described were a surprise, as I had never heard of them, like reading how a pencil-shaped missile was built that could fly and maneuver over an intercontinental distance at a high hypersonic velocity. He also described how American engineers and scientists fought the Cold War battle for technological supremacy on their desks and in their laboratories. The initiatives by which this enterprising engineer develops his technical approach to a project are very informative and offer the reader an insight into the workings of successful operations. He achieves an interesting behind-the-scenes look at how aerospace history is made by weaving in the historical significance of these projects as they are developed. As a former aeronautical engineer at the rapidly growing Mc- Donnell Aircraft Corporation, Bob gives us an interesting exposure to the importance of top management's relationship with the workforce in a successful company. "Mr. Mac" made it a point to make all his employees team members by frequent communication and friendly association.

Book Wingless Flight

Download or read book Wingless Flight written by R. Dale Reed, Darlene Lister and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Much has been written about the famous conflicts and battlegrounds of the East during the American Revolution. Perhaps less familiar, but equally important and exciting, was the war on the western frontier, where Ohio Valley settlers fought for the land they had claimed -- and for their very lives. George Rogers Clark stepped forward to organize the local militias into a united front that would defend the western frontier from Indian attacks. Clark was one of the few people who saw the importance of the West in the war effort as a whole, and he persuaded Virginia's government to lend support to his efforts. As a result Clark was able to cross the Ohio, saving that part of the frontier from further raids. Lowell Harrison captures the excitement of this vital part of American history while giving a complete view of George Rogers Clark's significant achievements. Lowell H. Harrison, is a professor emeritus of history at Western Kentucky University and is the author or co-author of numerous books, including Lincoln of Kentucky, A New History of Kentucky, and Kentucky's Governors."
