Book Ultrasonic Transducers

Download or read book Ultrasonic Transducers written by K Nakamura and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-08-23 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonic transducers are key components in sensors for distance, flow and level measurement as well as in power, biomedical and other applications of ultrasound. Ultrasonic transducers reviews recent research in the design and application of this important technology.Part one provides an overview of materials and design of ultrasonic transducers. Piezoelectricity and basic configurations are explored in depth, along with electromagnetic acoustic transducers, and the use of ceramics, thin film and single crystals in ultrasonic transducers. Part two goes on to investigate modelling and characterisation, with performance modelling, electrical evaluation, laser Doppler vibrometry and optical visualisation all considered in detail. Applications of ultrasonic transducers are the focus of part three, beginning with a review of surface acoustic wave devices and air-borne ultrasound transducers, and going on to consider ultrasonic transducers for use at high temperature and in flaw detection systems, power, biomedical and micro-scale ultrasonics, therapeutic ultrasound devices, piezoelectric and fibre optic hydrophones, and ultrasonic motors are also described. With its distinguished editor and expert team of international contributors,Ultrasonic transducers is an authoritative review of key developments for engineers and materials scientists involved in this area of technology as well as in its applications in sectors as diverse as electronics, wireless communication and medical diagnostics. - Reviews recent research in the design and application of ultrasonic transducers - Provides an overview of the materials and design of ultrasonic transducers, with an in-depth exploration of piezoelectricity and basic configurations - Investigates modelling and characterisation, applications of ultrasonic transducers, and ultrasonic transducers for use at high temperature and in flaw detection systems

Book Light Diffraction by Ultrasonic Waves as a Multiple Scattering Process

Download or read book Light Diffraction by Ultrasonic Waves as a Multiple Scattering Process written by H. V. Hance and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The phenomenon of light diffraction by ultrasonic waves has been studied extensively in the past, but quantitative investigations have been limited in scope, probably because of computational difficulties. Recently, there has been developed a method of analysis that allows numerical computation for arbitrarily specified conditions to be carried out on a digital computer. This method, which employs approximate theory and an iterative process, is used in this study to investigate the ultrasonic diffraction effect over a wide range of conditions. When the ratio of light wavelength to ultrasonic wavelength is small compared to unity, the theoretical development on which this numerical analysis is based shows that the intensities in the various diffraction orders are determined by three nondimensional parameters. These parameters are related to three physical parameters of the ultrasonic beam-wavelength, intensity, and width-and two physical parameters of the light beam-wavelength and incidence angle. Special attention is given to the variation of diffracted-beam intensity with variation of the parameters about values that produce strong Bragg scattering into the -1st order. These conditions are of particular interest because of the possibility of diverting all incident-beam power into one diffraction order under control of the ultrasonic beam. In addition, the conditions required for strong Bragg diffraction into the -2nd order are determined. (Author).

Book Light Diffraction by Ultrasonic Surface Waves

Download or read book Light Diffraction by Ultrasonic Surface Waves written by Walter G. Mayer and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The light intensity distribution in the orders of a diffraction pattern produced by the interaction of progressive ultrasonic surface waves and a monochromatic light beam is calculated. From the diffracted light intensity one can determine the amplitude of the surface wave, and from the spacing of the diffraction orders one obtains the velocity of the surface wave. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains 17 invited papers and 80 communicated papers presented at the International Symposium on Physical Acoustics, held at the University Campus of Kortrijk, Belgium, from 19-22 June 1990. The twenty-fifth anniversary of the Campus was celebrated with special activi ties such as concerts, exhibitions and scientific meetings. This symposium was a part of the celebration. The 120 participants came from 18 different countries. Among the largest groups we mention 32 French contributions and 19 contributions from the U.S.S.R. We especially thank Prof. V.V. Proklov from Moscow and Prof. S.V. Kulakov from Leningrad who helped us with the distribution of invitations in the U.S.S.R. We also thank Prof. G. Quentin and Ir B. Poiree from Paris who endeav oured to inform all French acousticians. We thank all the lecturers for their effort in producing the material for the book in time. The invited lectures have been collected and retyped by Prof. M. Breazeale (U.S.A.), while the contributed papers were collec ted by Prof. O. Leroy and retyped in Belgium. The first 200 pages of the book comprise the invited lectures, not classified by topic, but are in alphabetical order with reference to the first author. The second part of the book contains the contributed papers and posters also classified in alphabetical order according to the first author.
