Forming an adventurous band of misfits, they build a magnificent treehouse, while the family's struggles worsen. As a bright future begins to fade, the dusty trail of failure slowly catches up. Book Every Day of My Life

Download or read book Every Day of My Life written by Beeb Birtles and published by Brolga Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book by a founding member of Little River Band: the first Australian band to achieve a gold album in the US. 'Every Day of My Life' tells the remarkable tale of how Beeb Birtles, David Briggs, Graeham Goble, George McArdle, Derek Pellicci and Glenn Shorrock conquered the world - and then lost their band. The book also documents how a young Dutch boy named Gerard Bertelkamp arrived in Adelaide, unable to speak English, and ended up in not one but two major bands: Zoot (with Darryl Cotton and Rick Springfield) and Little River Band (with Glenn Shorrock and later John Farnham). As the title suggests, Every Day of My Life is an intensely personal journey. Beeb Birtles might have lost his band but he discovered many other things along the way. LRB's hits include 'Reminiscing', 'Help Is On Its Way', 'Lonesome Loser', 'The Night Owls', 'It's a Long Way There', 'Cool Change', 'Happy Anniversary', 'Lady', 'Curiosity (Killed the Cat)', 'Witchery', and 'Every Day of My Life'. Due to a bizarre copyright case, Beeb Birtles can no longer make music as Little River Band. But he can tell their incredible story - and his own incredible story.

Book Now Where Was I

Download or read book Now Where Was I written by Glenn Shorrock and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a career spanning over 50 years, Glenn Shorrock is one of the elder statesmen of Australian contemporary show business. Born in Kent England in 1944 before emigrating with his family to Adelaide as a 'ten pound Pom' in the 1950s, his is a success story that took him around the world to international stardom. From his days with Sixties pop band The Twilights, to his work with Brian Cadd and Axiom in the early 1970s to his fronting of chart-topping Little River Band, Glenn tells his story in an intelligent, witty style that recalls the heady days of the 1960s and international fame in the 1970s and 80s. 'Now ... Where Was I?' is Glenn's story in his own words. He writes of his childhood in Kent, England and his family's decision to emigrate to Australia in the 1950s. Resettled in the northern suburbs of Adelaide as a 'ten-pound pom' Glenn formed a 'doo-wop' acapella group with some other lads which later became the nucleus for the chart-topping pop group The Twilights. Winning Australia's 'Battle of the Bands' in 1966, Glenn and the boys found themselves in England at the end of the year, recording at Abbey Road while the Beatles wrote Penny Laine in the studio next door. After The Twilights, Glenn found fame with Brian Cadd's group Axiom, with their hit 'A Little Ray of Sunshine' becoming an international best-seller. In 1975, Glenn was seconded by Beeb Birtles and Grahame Goble to be the front man of their new group Little River Band. For the next five years, the band travelled and performed all around the world and had enormous success in the US and Europe with a string of Hits. In 1980, he decided to take a break from touring but the group replaced him with John Farnham. Although he later returned to front the group in the mid-1980s, the band disintegrated and the founding members lost the right to perform under the LRB name. Glenn tells these stories and many more - the big names, the long tours and the bitter controversies - all the while, not loosing his unique sense of humour and touch of irony.

Book Shadows on the Koyukuk

Download or read book Shadows on the Koyukuk written by Jim Rearden and published by Graphic Arts Books. This book was released on 2014-04-04 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I owe Alaska. It gave me everything I have.” Says Sidney Huntington, son of an Athapaskan mother and white trader/trapper father. Growing up on the Koyukuk River in Alaska’s harsh Interior, that “everything” spans 78 years of tragedies and adventures. When his mother died suddenly, 5-year-old Huntington protected and cared for his younger brother and sister during two weeks of isolation. Later, as a teenager, he plied the wilderness traplines with his father, nearly freezing to death several times. One spring, he watched an ice-filled breakup flood sweep his family’s cabin and belongings away. These and many other episodes are the compelling background for the story of a man who learned the lessons of a land and culture, lessons that enabled him to prosper as trapper, boat builder, and fisherman. This is more than one man's incredible tale of hardship and success in Alaska. It is also a tribute to the Athapaskan traditions and spiritual beliefs that enabled him and his ancestors to survive. His story, simply told, is a testament to the durability of Alaska's wild lands and to the strength of the people who inhabit them.

Book A Little Me

Book excerpt: From the star of TLC’s hit reality show Little People BIG World comes a revelatory memoir that will inspire those who have long followed the Roloff’s and newcomers alike. “A Little Me by Amy Roloff is a feel-good, inspirational memoir about a remarkable woman who addresses challenges head-on with a positive outlook and deep faith.” – New York Journal of Books Whatever package you come in, life isn’t easier or harder than another’s because you are different physically. There may be more challenges, but still, everyone has challenges. “God doesn’t make mistakes.” For Amy Roloff, star of TLC’s hit reality show Little People, BIG World, her father’s words would repeatedly serve as an anchor, reminding her of her inherent worth and purpose, whenever feelings of insecurity and inadequacy surfaced and threatened to overwhelm her. In A Little Me, Amy shares what it was like growing up with achondroplasia dwarfism, how she struggled to overcome obstacles both physical and emotional—navigating the average-size world as a little person, dealing with a serious illness as a young girl, bullying, and issues of body image and unachievable beauty ideals—while learning, as we all must, to accept herself for who she is. Finally allowing herself to be vulnerable enough to open up to others, she learned that it’s worth risking possible rejection for a chance at genuine relationships. Amy’s memoir is an inspiring and at times heart-wrenching account of resilience and the strength of the human spirit to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
