Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The oldest Islamic biography of Muhammad, written in the mid-eighth century, relates that the prophet died at Medina in 632, while earlier and more numerous Jewish, Christian, Samaritan, and even Islamic sources indicate that Muhammad survived to lead the conquest of Palestine, beginning in 634-35. Although this discrepancy has been known for several decades, Stephen J. Shoemaker here writes the first systematic study of the various traditions. Using methods and perspectives borrowed from biblical studies, Shoemaker concludes that these reports of Muhammad's leadership during the Palestinian invasion likely preserve an early Islamic tradition that was later revised to meet the needs of a changing Islamic self-identity. Muhammad and his followers appear to have expected the world to end in the immediate future, perhaps even in their own lifetimes, Shoemaker contends. When the eschatological Hour failed to arrive on schedule and continued to be deferred to an ever more distant point, the meaning of Muhammad's message and the faith that he established needed to be fundamentally rethought by his early followers. The larger purpose of The Death of a Prophet exceeds the mere possibility of adjusting the date of Muhammad's death by a few years; far more important to Shoemaker are questions about the manner in which Islamic origins should be studied. The difference in the early sources affords an important opening through which to explore the nature of primitive Islam more broadly. Arguing for greater methodological unity between the study of Christian and Islamic origins, Shoemaker emphasizes the potential value of non-Islamic sources for reconstructing the history of formative Islam.

Book excerpt: Many books have been written about the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), However, In writing this book, the author (Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghazali) had a specific objective. He used the life of the Prophet (SAW) to go into depths that many historians had only touched upon from the various aspects of his (saw) life. This book goes into detail and provides reasons and explanations for whatever took place. It is a blend of modern analysis and ancient detail. Its objective is to nurture faith, purify characters and fan the struggle to embrace the truth and be faithful to it. Indeed, the life of the Prophet (SAW) has been documented as a message for practical implementation, not intellectual entertainment'. You may think that you have studied the life of Muhammad by following his history from birth to death but this is a grave mistake. You will never really understand the Seerah unless you study the noble Qur'an and the purified Sunnah. The amount that you derive from these will tell the strength of your connection with the prophet of Islam, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam' Drawing upon his profound classical Islamic learning and an extensive knowledge of modern science, Sheikh al-Ghazali has broken new ground in the study of Seerah, bringing to bear a fresh but wholly authentic approach. This is a work which all serious students should have, to complement the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

Martin Lings has an unusual gift for narrative. He has adopted a style which is at once extremely readable and reflects both the simplicity and grandeur of the story. The result is a book which will be read with equal enjoyment by those already familiar with Muhammad's life and those coming to it for the first time. Book The Prophet s Heir

Download or read book The Prophet s Heir written by Hassan Abbas and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2021-02-23 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life and legacy of one of Mohammad’s closest confidants and Islam’s patron saint: Ali ibn Abi Talib Ali ibn Abi Talib is arguably the single most important spiritual and intellectual authority in Islam after prophet Mohammad. Through his teachings and leadership as fourth caliph, Ali nourished Islam. But Muslims are divided on whether he was supposed to be Mohammad’s political successor—and he continues to be a polarizing figure in Islamic history. Hassan Abbas provides a nuanced, compelling portrait of this towering yet divisive figure and the origins of sectarian division within Islam. Abbas reveals how, after Mohammad, Ali assumed the spiritual mantle of Islam to spearhead the movement that the prophet had led. While Ali’s teachings about wisdom, justice, and selflessness continue to be cherished by both Shia and Sunni Muslims, his pluralist ideas have been buried under sectarian agendas and power politics. Today, Abbas argues, Ali’s legacy and message stands against that of ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and Taliban.

Book The Hidden Life of the Prophet Muhammad

Download or read book The Hidden Life of the Prophet Muhammad written by A. A. Ahmed and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2006-02 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is very rare to find a book in the academic circles and public libraries that speaks about Muhammad of history. Most of the books today tell you about Muhammad of faith, the founder of Islam. In this book I am presenting Muhammad of history- his life, wars, and teachings. My accounts are based on the "Mothers of the Islamic Books,"[1] the writings of the Egyptian Muslim liberal thinker, Sayyid Mahmoud Al-Qimni, and the views of some modern Muslim and non-Muslim writers. What is written in the "Mothers of the Islamic Books" is called "Al-Maskoot Anho" which means information that people- Muslims and non-Muslims - are not supposed to hear and know. Very few ''ulama "or Muslim Scholars" of al-Azhar al-Sharif University read these accounts and hardly speak about them even to one another. However, modern Egyptian Muslim writers such as Sayyid Mahmoud al-Qimni, Faraj Foda, and Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd endangered their lives by breaking the seals of these books and revealing to the public information about Muhammad that they have never heard before. For this reason Faraj Foda was shot dead in front of his office in Cairo, Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd fled out of Egypt to escape the death penalty, and Sayyid Mahmoud al-Qimni was forced to recant all his writings. Unfortunately before the outside world would get chance to read their works, these writers were silenced through murder, terrorization, and death-threat, and their writings are banned in the Muslim world. Besides that none of their books have been translated into English or any other western languages. In this book I am presenting the reader with the most important contributions of Dr. Sayyid Mahmoud al-Qimni. Accordingly, although many books are written about the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, however, this book is unique because it reveals things you have never heard before and you are not likely to get them in any other biographies of Muhammad. No matter what religious background you come from, this book is going to change your understanding of Islam and give you better insight into our world today. It is a book with no disguises that takes you deep into the life, teachings, and wars of the Prophet Muhammad. The Author: Dr. A. A. Ahmed. October 21, 2005. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1] "The Mothers of the Islamic Books" are books approved by Al-Azhar al-Sharif University in Cairo, Egypt. Al-Azhar University is the oldest, largest and most prestigious religious university in the Muslim world. It controls the religious life of the Sunni Muslims around the world. 85% of the Muslims in the World are Sunni Muslims.

Book The Life of Prophet Muhammad

Download or read book The Life of Prophet Muhammad written by Mustafa Al-Sibai and published by . This book was released on 2021-02-14 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is very important for anyone who wants to spread the message of Islam to study the life of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and discover how he undertook the mission of da'wah, or calling to Islam. This book is a blueprint for da'wah. From studying his biography we learn the lessons of patience and perseverance in the face of adversity and opposition, and the readiness to sacrifice everything for the cause of Islam. In this book, Dr. as-Sibâ'ie shows us how the Prophet's approach was gentle yet determined and clear-cut, with no compromise on basic issues. The author takes the most important events of the Messenger's life, summarizes them in order to offer a brief overview, then outlines the lessons that we learn from these events. This is an excellent introduction both to the principles of da'wah and to the seerah, the study of the life of the Prophet (blessings and peace be upon him). It should be on the bookshelf of every Muslim who wants to call others to Allah.
