Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In August 1914 the German main attack was conducted by the 2nd Army. It had the missions of taking the vital fortresses of Liège and Namur, and then defeating the Anglo-French-Belgian forces in the open plains of northern Belgium. The German attack on the Belgian fortress at Liège from 5 to 16 August 1914 had tremendous political and military importance. Nevertheless, there has never been a complete account of the siege of Liège. The German and Belgian sources are fragmentary and biased. The short descriptions in English are general, use a few Belgian sources, and are filled with inaccuracies. Making professional military use of both German and Belgian sources, this book for the first time describes and evaluates the construction of the fortress, its military purpose, the German plan, and the conduct of the German attack on the night of 5-6 August. Previous accounts emphasize the importance of the huge German “Big Bertha” cannon, to the virtual exclusion of everything else: the Siege of Liège shows that the effect of this gun was a myth, and shows how the Germans really took the fortress. This is how the whole bloody mess started.

But the deadly focus he was wired for comes to a crashing halt when he sees her, a female who ignites in him a very human hunger, one he no longer thought himself capable of feeling. Summer Coltrane is oblivious to the powers swirling around her--light and dark, evil and good--until the veil between both worlds is ripped open and she's plunged into a terrible power play between a darkly tempting warrior and his ruthless enemies. To stay alive, she must join forces with Liege, a man who kills without remorse to save those he loves in a war no one in her world can know about.

Book War State and Society in Li ge

Download or read book War State and Society in Li ge written by Roeland Goorts and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2019-03-11 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small power diplomacy in seventeenth century Europe War, State and Society in Liège is a fascinating case study of the consequences of war in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège and touches upon wider issues in early modern history, such as small power diplomacy in the seventeenth century and during the Nine Years’ War. For centuries, the small semi-independent Holy Roman Principality of Liège succeeded in preserving a non-belligerent role in European conflicts. During the Nine Years’ War (1688–1697), however, Liège’s leaders had to abolish the practice of neutrality. For the first time in its early modern history, the Prince-Bishopric had to raise a regular army, reconstruct ruined defence structures, and supply army contributions in both money and material. The issues under discussion in War, State and Society in Liège offer the reader insight into how Liège politically protected its powerful institutions and how the local elite tried to influence the interplay between domestic and external diplomatic relationships.

He wasn’t looking for a mate, but he bonds with Selena the first time he sees her, activating a curse neither of them can escape. Download or read book O Men Liege s Legion Merc written by Elaine Levine and published by Elaine Levine. This book was released on 2020-12-22 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valle de Lágrimas, the Valley of Tears, is a Colombian hell hole Merc hoped never to see again. Having survived years of rebel wars and illegal cartel activity, it faces a new and worse threat, an enemy long known to the Legion: the Omni World Order. Merc’s job—and that of all Legionnaires—is to protect humans from Omni mutants, not each other. But Merc doesn’t do rules, and the chaos he unleashes takes on a life of its own, making it impossible to throttle down. Ashlyn DeWinter is excited about her trip to Colombia. Valle de Lágrimas keeps popping up in her research, but her friends warn her it isn’t safe for tourists. Something about the village draws her nonetheless. Her visit comes in the wake of an unusual man’s time there—a man who did terrible and wonderful things to protect the village. A man whose energy she hungers for, though she hasn’t met him and likely never will. A man like that couldn’t possibly exist—could he? A better question is—how does she find him when the only name she has for him is his odd nickname: Merc?
