Book The Liberty Incident Revealed

Download or read book The Liberty Incident Revealed written by A. Jay Cristol and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2013-09-15 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Liberty Incident Revealed is the complete and final story about the Israeli Air Force and Navy attack on the USS Liberty during the Six Day War in June 1967. Cutting through all of the controversy and conspiracy theories about Israel’s deadly attack, Cristol revises his well-regarded book about the event with an expanded and in-depth analysis of all of the sources, including the released tapes of the National Security Agency (NSA) intercepts. When Cristol’s first book on the subject, The Liberty Incident, was published in 2002, there remained many unanswered questions about Israeli Air Force audio tapes. The NSA intercepts tapes had not yet been released in 2002. Some conspiracy theorists alleged the NSA tapes would prove that the Israeli attack was premeditated. Cristol’s successful Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the NSA, while resulting in the release of those tapes, has been greeted by anti-Israel sources insisting that the NSA tapes are fraudulent and are part of a larger conspiracy to deceive the American public. After a quarter of a century of intensive research in both Israel and the U.S., researching all relevant archives from NSA, CIA and the State Department, reviewing both formerly classified and open source documents, and interviewing all then-living individuals directly involved in the incident, the factual and documentary record is clear. Cristol maintains that despite the fact that all of the official records and transcripts are now available for review, the truth has proven to be of no interest to those individuals and organizations who are motivated by hidden agendas, wish to keep conspiracy theories alive, or are trying to feed sensational stories to the media. Documenting his findings in six new chapters, Cristol establishes definitively that the Israeli attack was a tragic mistake and presents a convincing argument that will be regarded as the final chapter in the long-simmering debate about this incident.

Book Liberty s Captives

Download or read book Liberty s Captives written by Daniel E. Williams and published by University of Georgia Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An astonishing variety of captivity narratives emerged in the fifty years following the American Revolution; however, discussions about them have usually focused on accounts of Native American captivities. To most readers, then, captivity narratives are synonymous with "godless savages," the vast frontier, and the trials of kidnapped settlers. This anthology, the first to bring together various types of captivity narratives in a comparative way, broadens our view of the form as it shows how the captivity narrative, in the nation-building years from 1770 to 1820, helped to shape national debates about American liberty and self-determination. Included here are accounts by Indian captives, but also prisoners of war, slaves, victims of pirates and Barbary corsairs, impressed sailors, and shipwreck survivors. The volume's seventeen selections have been culled from hundreds of such texts, edited according to scholarly standards, and reproduced with the highest possible degree of fidelity to the originals. Some selections are fictional or borrow heavily from other, true narratives; all are sensational. Immensely popular with American readers, they were also a lucrative commodity that helped to catalyze the explosion of print culture in the early Republic. As Americans began to personalize the rhetoric of their recent revolution, captivity narratives textually enacted graphic scenes of defiance toward deprivation, confinement, and coercion. At a critical point in American history they helped make the ideals of nationhood real to common citizens.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When dealing with the death of a loved one, many find great comfort in the company of others who are experiencing the same sense of loss and fear. The seven mourners and three facilitators of the new support group at the Grief Clinic are about to embark on their own journeys of discovery, help, and healing. But a story in the local paper shakes the clinic staff with news of the death of an ex-client, Mr. Sorenson, who had just completed his sessions six months earlier. Following the tragic drowning death of his wife, he and his daughter were overwhelmed, confused, and unable to move beyond their sorrow. Now Mr. Sorenson has also drowned, and his death is ruled suspicious after questions arise during his autopsy. The story also catches the attention of the family of another of the clinics former clients, who died a year earlier. Mr. Marcus, another widower, was found at the bottom of a cliff, and while his death was considered an accident, his family always suspected foul play. This new situation motivates them to contact the clinic to request another look at these deaths. Fear, concern, and suspicion become bedfellows for all connected with the clinic. Are the support-group participants being targeted by a killeror killers? Only time will tell.
