Book New Dangerous Liaisons

    Book Details:
  • Author : Luisa Passerini
  • Publisher : Berghahn Books
  • Release : 2010-10-01
  • ISBN : 1845459768
  • Pages : 334 pages

Download or read book New Dangerous Liaisons written by Luisa Passerini and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2010-10-01 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Europe, love has been given a prominent place in European self-representations from the Enlightenment onwards. The category of love, stemming from private and personal spheres, was given a public function and used to distinguish European civilisation from others. Contributors to this volume trace historical links and analyse specific connections between the two discourses on love and Europe over the course of the twentieth century, exploring the distinctions made between the public and private, the political and personal. In doing so, this volume develops an innovative historiography that includes such resources as autobiographies, love letters, and cinematic representations, and takes issue with the exclusivity of Eurocentrism. Its contributors put forth hypotheses about the historical pre-eminence of emotions and consider this history as a basis for a non-Eurocentric understanding of new possible European identities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Liaison roles are generally commonplace in medical and health sciences libraries as librarians strive to develop and enhance relationships and collaborations with clinicians and faculty. While the liaison of the past acted primarily as the main contact between respective departments and the library providing a facilitative function (e.g. arranging for instruction sessions, inviting feedback on the collection, providing updates on new programs and services, etc.), today’s liaison activities are more proactive and robust. The Engaged Health Sciences Library Liaison features ten program descriptions that illustrate how the reach and scope of librarians in the medical/healthcare arena has changed dramatically since the inception of liaison services. The program outcomes described: illustrate a direct impact on curriculum development, address new information types with new access and preservation technologies, expand stakeholder groups, create research and teaching collaborations, and enhance functional roles. This authoritative book copublished by the Medical Library Association demonstrates thatcollaboration and communication, the basic tenets of a liaison program, breed innovative programs and services that are relevant, current, and valuable.

Book Introduction to Liaison Theory and Deficiency Modules

Download or read book Introduction to Liaison Theory and Deficiency Modules written by Juan C. Migliore and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the fall of 1992 I was invited by Professor Changho Keem to visit Seoul National University and give a series of talks. I was asked to write a monograph based on my talks, and the result was published by the Global Analysis Research Center of that University in 1994. The monograph treated deficiency modules and liaison theory for complete intersections. Over the next several years I continually thought of improvements and additions that I would like to make to the manuscript, and at the same time my research led me in directions that gave me a fresh perspective on much of the material, especially in the direction of liaison theory. This re sulted in a dramatic change in the focus of this manuscript, from complete intersections to Gorenstein ideals, and a substantial amount of additions and revisions. It is my hope that this book now serves not only as an introduction to a beautiful subject, but also gives the reader a glimpse at very recent developments and an idea of the direction in which liaison theory is going, at least from my perspective. One theme which I have tried to stress is the tremendous amount of geometry which lies at the heart of the subject, and the beautiful interplay between algebra and geometry. Whenever possible I have given remarks and examples to illustrate this interplay, and I have tried to phrase the results in as geometric a way as possible.

  • Author : Claudia Moscovici
  • Publisher : Hamilton Books
  • Release : 2011-11-15
  • ISBN : 076185570X
  • Pages : 231 pages

Download or read book Dangerous Liaisons written by Claudia Moscovici and published by Hamilton Books. This book was released on 2011-11-15 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do Scott Peterson, Neil Entwistle and timeless literary seducers epitomized by Don Juan and Casanova have in common? They are charismatic, glib and seductive men who also embody the most dangerous human qualities: a breathtaking callousness, shallowness of emotion and the incapacity to love. In other words, these men are psychopaths. Unfortunately, most psychopaths don’t advertise themselves as heartless social predators. They come across as charming, intelligent, romantic and kind. Through their believable “mask of sanity,” they lure many of us into their dangerous nets. Dangerous Liaisons explains clearly what psychopaths are, why they act the way they do, how they attract us and whom they tend to target. Above all, this book helps victims find the strength to end their toxic relationships with psychopaths and move on, stronger and wiser, with the rest of their lives.
