Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Springer Handbook comprehensively covers the topic of semiconductor devices, embracing all aspects from theoretical background to fabrication, modeling, and applications. Nearly 100 leading scientists from industry and academia were selected to write the handbook's chapters, which were conceived for professionals and practitioners, material scientists, physicists and electrical engineers working at universities, industrial R&D, and manufacturers. Starting from the description of the relevant technological aspects and fabrication steps, the handbook proceeds with a section fully devoted to the main conventional semiconductor devices like, e.g., bipolar transistors and MOS capacitors and transistors, used in the production of the standard integrated circuits, and the corresponding physical models. In the subsequent chapters, the scaling issues of the semiconductor-device technology are addressed, followed by the description of novel concept-based semiconductor devices. The last section illustrates the numerical simulation methods ranging from the fabrication processes to the device performances. Each chapter is self-contained, and refers to related topics treated in other chapters when necessary, so that the reader interested in a specific subject can easily identify a personal reading path through the vast contents of the handbook.

Book Micro System Technologies 90

Download or read book Micro System Technologies 90 written by Herbert Reichl and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 843 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 10-13, 1990, the first international meeting on Microsystem Technologies takes place at the Berlin International Congress Center. Most of the traditional congresses deal with themes that become more and more specific, and only a small part of the scientific world is reflected. The Micro System Technologies is attempting to take the opposite direction: During the last two decades the development of microelectronics was characterized by a tremendous increase of complexity of integrated circuits. At the same time the fields of microoptics and micromechanics have been developed to an advanced state of the art by the application of thin film and semiconductor technologies. The trend of the future development is to increase the integration density by combining the microelectronic, microoptic, and micro mechanic aspects to new complex multifunctional systems, which are able to comprise sensors, actuators, analogue and digital circuits on the same chip or on multichip-modules. Microsystems will lead to extensions of the field of microelectronic applications with important technical alterations and can open new considerable markets. For the realization of economical solutions for microsystems a lot of interdisciplinary cooperation and know-how has to be developed. New materials for sensitive layers, substrates, conducting, semiconducting, or isolating thin films are the basis for the development of new technologies. The increasing complexity leads to increasing interaction among electrical and non-electrical quantities.

Book Design Implementation and Control of a Magnetic Levitation Device

Download or read book Design Implementation and Control of a Magnetic Levitation Device written by Ehsan Shameli and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Magnetic levitation technology has shown a great deal of promise for micromanipulation tasks. Due to the lack of mechanical contact, magnetic levitation systems are free of problems caused by friction, wear, sealing and lubrication. These advantages have made magnetic levitation systems a great candidate for clean room applications. In this thesis, a new large gap magnetic levitation system is designed, developed and successfully tested. The system is capable of levitating a 6.5(gr) permanent magnet in 3D space with an air gap of approximately 50(cm) with the traveling range of 20x20x30 cubic millimeters. The overall positioning accuracy of the system is 60 micro meters. With the aid of finite elements method, an optimal geometry for the magnetic stator is proposed. Also, an energy optimization approach is utilized in the design of the electromagnets.

Book Identification of Physical Systems

Download or read book Identification of Physical Systems written by Rajamani Doraiswami and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 683 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Identification of a physical system deals with the problem of identifying its mathematical model using the measured input and output data. As the physical system is generally complex, nonlinear, and its input–output data is corrupted noise, there are fundamental theoretical and practical issues that need to be considered. Identification of Physical Systems addresses this need, presenting a systematic, unified approach to the problem of physical system identification and its practical applications. Starting with a least-squares method, the authors develop various schemes to address the issues of accuracy, variation in the operating regimes, closed loop, and interconnected subsystems. Also presented is a non-parametric signal or data-based scheme to identify a means to provide a quick macroscopic picture of the system to complement the precise microscopic picture given by the parametric model-based scheme. Finally, a sequential integration of totally different schemes, such as non-parametric, Kalman filter, and parametric model, is developed to meet the speed and accuracy requirement of mission-critical systems. Key features: Provides a clear understanding of theoretical and practical issues in identification and its applications, enabling the reader to grasp a clear understanding of the theory and apply it to practical problems Offers a self-contained guide by including the background necessary to understand this interdisciplinary subject Includes case studies for the application of identification on physical laboratory scale systems, as well as number of illustrative examples throughout the book Identification of Physical Systems is a comprehensive reference for researchers and practitioners working in this field and is also a useful source of information for graduate students in electrical, computer, biomedical, chemical, and mechanical engineering.

This book was released on 2023-03-30 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bachelor Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Physics - Applied physics, University of Aberdeen, language: English, abstract: This thesis investigates two powerful techniques for manipulating and studying microscopic particles: optical tweezers and acoustic levitation. Optical tweezers use the force of light to trap and manipulate small particles, while acoustic levitation uses sound waves to levitate particles in mid-air. The first part of the thesis focuses on the construction and optimization of an optical tweezers system. The system is build using high-powered laser, optics for focusing the laser beam, and a position detection and control system. the second part of this thesis explores the use of acoustic levitation for the manipulation of micro spheres. The acoustic levitation system is designed and constructed using 72 transducers. The system is characterized using measurements of the acoustic field and the resulting levitation forces. The levitation of micro spheres is demonstrated. This thesis would provide a detailed investigation of two powerful techniques for the manipulation of microscopic particles.

Book Surface Tension in Microsystems

Download or read book Surface Tension in Microsystems written by Pierre Lambert and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-08-31 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes how surface tension effects can be used by engineers to provide mechanical functions in miniaturized products (1 mm). Even if precursors of this field such as Jurin or Laplace already date back to the 18th century, describing surface tension effects from a mechanical perspective is very recent.brThe originality of this book is to consider the effects of capillary bridges on solids, including forces and torques exerted both statically and dynamically by the liquid along the 6 degrees-of-freedom.brIt provides a comprehensive approach to various applications, such as capillary adhesion (axial force), centering force in packaging and micro-assembly (lateral force) and recent developments such as a capillary motor (torque).
