Book Means of Transportation and Registration of Nationality

Download or read book Means of Transportation and Registration of Nationality written by Vincent P. Cogliati-Bantz and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-05-22 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the concept of nationality of means of transportation in terms of jurisdiction in international law. It reassesses the definition of nationality and explores how it is conferred. The book first places nationality in the broader perspective of jurisdiction in international law, and examines the historical development and necessity of the nationality of means of transportation. It goes on to investigate whether and under which conditions international organizations may confer a ‘nationality’ on means of transportation, examining the law of the sea conventions and air and space treaties. The book finally explores several questions relating to international registration of means of transportation, building a regime of international registration. Vincent Cogliati-Bantz introduces a necessary distinction between transport internationally registered and transport registered in a State but fulfilling a mission for an international organization. As a work that proposes the ability for international organisations to access international spaces without reliance on State-registered means of transport, this book will be of great use and interest to scholars and students of public international law, international organisations, and maritime, space, and aviation law.

Book excerpt: Palmyre. A city of questions and a family short on answers. And foremost on everyone’s mind is the question that matters most: Where is Grandpa Jack? After a long and arduous journey, the Sullivan family has made it to Palmyre. The initial joy over their reunion soon fades, however, when Grandpa Jack fails to arrive. With no way of seeking him out, they turn their attention to surviving in a town far different from anything they have experienced before. For some, it is a matter of learning who they are. For others, it is about learning what they are becoming. And for Grandpa Jack, well, he would have gotten to that damn town ages ago if there weren’t so many damn creatures, monsters, and gods in the way. As for Turkaletta…does anyone think of the turkey? Nooo. It’s all, “Where’s Grandpa Jack?” Couldn’t just one person say, “What about our turkey?” Sigh. Looks like she’ll have to do it her way.

Book Interpretation of Law in the Global World From Particularism to a Universal Approach

Download or read book Interpretation of Law in the Global World From Particularism to a Universal Approach written by Joanna Jemielniak and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-04-08 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capturing the Change: Universalising Tendencies in Legal Interpretation Joanna Jemielniak and Przemys aw Mik aszewicz International and supranational integration on the European continent, as well as the harmonisation of the rules of international trade and the accompanying dev- opment and global popularity of the resolution of commercial disputes through arbitration, constantly exerts a considerable in uence on modern legal systems. The sources of each of these phenomena are different, and their action is dissimilar. Each can be described as reaching either from the top to the bottom, through the direct involvement of interested States and consequently affecting their internal legal s- tems (international and supranational integration; harmonisation of trade regulations through public international law instruments), or bottom-up, as a result of activity by private parties, leading to the achievement of uniform practices and standards (ar- tration, lex mercatoria). Nonetheless, they both enrich national legal cultures and contribute to transgressing the limits of national (local) particularisms in creating, interpreting and applying the law. The aim of this book is to demonstrate how these processes have in uenced the interpretation of law, how they have shaped the methods and techniques of the interpretation and with what consequences for the outcomes of the interpretative procedures. In assessing the extent of this in uence, due regard must be paid to the fact that the interpretation of law is not, in principle, directly determined by the provisions of law itself.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than ten years ago, the faculty members of the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine developed a review book of medical pharmacology in response to requests from our second year medical students who were preparing to sit for the Part I examination of the National Board of Medical Examiners. The students expressed a need for an organized approach to cope with the volume of basic science curricular material presented during the first two years. Therefore, our review book was not designed to provide a comprehensive text on pharmacology, but rather to provide the students with a significant core of information, as a refresher, after they had successfully completed a basic course in pharmacology. This book represents a major revision of our review of medical pharmacology. The book has been reorganized, updated and expanded to provide current information on major new drugs and information on older drug groups that typically are covered on licensure examinations. The book also has been expanded to include a large number of new questions for self-examination. The faculty have endeavored to retain a reasonably concise, relevant and readable review book that will provide the students with a thorough review of pharmacology. Students are advised to refer to comprehensive textbooks, as needed, to fill in any gaps in their knowledge which may be disclosed by the self-examinations.
