Book Letter to My Daughter Words of wisdom advice and lessons on life from parents

Download or read book Letter to My Daughter Words of wisdom advice and lessons on life from parents written by Theresa Tan and published by Marshall Cavendish International Asia Pte Ltd. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They say little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice. That innocent baby in the cot will one day become a sister, a mother, a wife, a daughter-in-law. A girl's first—and sometimes final—teacher is her mother. From first steps to first kiss, marriage to motherhood, mothers are the coach and counsellor in every girl's life. In this collection curated by veteran editor and writer Theresa Tan, mothers write letters to their daughters who may one day become mothers themselves. At times hilarious, mostly brutally honest, these are no-holds-barred, one-sided conversations between moms and their girls: values to impart, mistakes to learn from, wisdom to pass on, confessions to make, gratitude to express. These letters will make you laugh, weep and hug your child. Includes notes on lipstick and taking care of your body; how to survive marriage (and divorce); stupid things never to do; making hard decisions; living life with passion; raising children and caring for aging parents; carrying on family traditions; focusing on what truly matters in life. Contributors include: Adlena Oh-Wong, Amy Poon, Ng Choong San, Cynthia Chew, Dawn Lee, Dawn Sim, Janet Goh, Jennifer Heng, Jenny Wee, Kalthum Ahmad, Karen Tan, Landy Chua-Moosa, Loretta Urquhart, Paige Parker, Petrina Kow, Sangeeta Mulchand, Shaan Moledina-Lim, Chiong Xiao Ting, Lin Xiuzhen, Yen Chua and Zalina Gazali

Book And Now We Have Everything

Download or read book And Now We Have Everything written by Meaghan O'Connell and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2018-04-10 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A raw, funny, and fiercely honest account of becoming a mother before feeling like a grown up. When Meaghan O'Connell got accidentally pregnant in her twenties and decided to keep the baby, she realized that the book she needed -- a brutally honest, agenda-free reckoning with the emotional and existential impact of motherhood -- didn't exist. So she decided to write it herself. And Now We Have Everything is O'Connell's exploration of the cataclysmic, impossible-to-prepare-for experience of becoming a mother. With her dark humor and hair-trigger B.S. detector, O'Connell addresses the pervasive imposter syndrome that comes with unplanned pregnancy, the fantasies of a "natural" birth experience that erode maternal self-esteem, post-partum body and sex issues, and the fascinating strangeness of stepping into a new, not-yet-comfortable identity. Channeling fears and anxieties that are still taboo and often unspoken, And Now We Have Everything is an unflinchingly frank, funny, and visceral motherhood story for our times, about having a baby and staying, for better or worse, exactly yourself. Smart, funny, and true in all the best ways, this book made me ache with recognition." -- Cheryl Strayed

Book A Southern Soldier s Letters Home

Download or read book A Southern Soldier s Letters Home written by Samuel Augustus Burney and published by Mercer University Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Samuel A. Burney, born in April 1840, was the son of Thomas Jefferson Burney and Julia Shields Burney. He graduated from Mercer University (then at Penfield, Georgia) in 1860. He joined the Panola Guards, an infantry component of Thomas R. R. Cobb's Georgia Legion, in July 1861. For the next four years he served in the Army of Northern Virginia both in Virginia and in Tennessee. Burney was wounded at Chancellorsville in May 1863, and as a result of his wound he was placed in disability in March 1864 and served the remainder of the war on commissary duty in southwest Georgia. After the war, Burney returned to Mercer's school of theology, was ordained into the Baptist ministry, and served as pastor of several churches in Morgan County. He was pastor of the Madison Baptist Church until shortly before his death in 1896. These letters of a college graduate written to his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd Burney are lyrical and beautifully written. Burney describes battles, camp life, theology, and the day-to-day dreariness of life in the army. This is an astounding collection of letters for anyone interested in the Civil War, or the South.

Book Legacy of Letters

Download or read book Legacy of Letters written by Patsy Gilbert Coleman and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2005-02-18 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most every family has a batch of personal letters tucked away in a drawer or a cedar chest, perhaps from someone who was away at war, visiting a foreign land, professing love, apologizing for a major wrong or just pouring out the deepest feelings. But it’s rare to find a collection that tells a universal story. Legacy of Letters reveals in depth the ever-changing dynamics of a family circle. At its center is a young Southern girl who took the “normal” path to her vision of a fulfilled, contented maturity, only to arrive feeling empty and restless, and compelled to explore the puzzling questions about life and purpose. The true story is told through a series of actual letters and diary entries written between 1932 and 1977 and preserved by the author and members of her family. These treasured documents tell of ordinary facets of life but together make up an extraordinary portrait. This book is the first in a series that carries the story to the present day. In today’s age of instantaneous communication, we take for granted just how much of our history is preserved by the written word. Legacy of Letters captures a snapshot of real American history and passes it down through time to current and future generations.
