The letters of John Kempe to John Murray III concern various proposals by Kempe for potential publications on subjects concerning the Church. Included are letters concerning the preparation and publication of "The classic preachers of the English Church. Lectures delivered at St. James's Church in 1878. Second series" (1878). They also relate to Kempe`s request, on behalf of "The Club of Nobody's Friends", of which he was Secretary, that John Murray III arrange to print the first volume of the historical list of the Club's members. The volume, compiled by George Cokayne, was printed for private circulation as "The Club of Nobody's Friends. Biographical list of the members since its foundation 21 June 1800 to 30 September 1885" (1920). The letters are arranged chronologically."

Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) belonged to an age that gave pride of place to the written word as an instrument of both business and pleasure. This volume includes 363 letters (many previously unpublished) from his school boy days to his establishment in the Tory camp under the patronage of Lord Lyndhurst. Most prominent are Disraeli's letters to his sister, Sarah, with whom he corresponded frequently over several decades. To her he confided his hopes, interspersed with his observations and descriptions of social, literary and political events. The letters to Sarah supply a skeleton around which Disraeli's young manhood can be reconstructed and shed valuable light on the remaining documents in the volume.
