Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During 1789-90, Nicholai Mikhailovich Karamzin, a young poet and short-story writer, toured Western Europe. On his return, he distilled his impressions in the form of travel letters. Letters of a Russian Traveler, 1791-1801, in which Karamzin’s impressions are woven into a wealth of information about Western European society and culture that he derived from wide reading, became a favorite of readers and was widely imitated. The most influential prose stylist of the eighteenth century, Karamzin shaped the development of the Russian literary language, introducing many Gallicisms to supplant Slavonic-derived words and idioms and breaking down the classicist canons of isolated language styles.

Book PROCESSES OF THINKING CREATIVITY AND IDEOLOGIES

Download or read book PROCESSES OF THINKING CREATIVITY AND IDEOLOGIES written by Andreas Sofroniou and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-06 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although creativity is considered a rare personality attribute, found only in gifted individuals, worthwhile innovations are often produced by 'ordinary' people. Thought is a philosophical method used for the analysis of concepts (most notably the concept of personal identity). It works by testing our intuitions in an imagined situation. Thought experiments are also used in the natural sciences: Isaac Newton used them when considering the nature of light, and Albert Einstein relied on them for the development of his theories of relativity. Ideology is a form of social or political philosophy in which practical elements are as prominent as theoretical ones. It is a system of ideas that aspires both to explain the world and to change it. A distinction is often drawn between the ideological and the pragmatic approach to politics, the latter being understood as the approach that treats particular issues and problems purely on their merits and does not attempt to apply

Book The Image of Peter the Great in Russian History and Thought

Download or read book The Image of Peter the Great in Russian History and Thought written by Nicholas Valentine Riasanovsky and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The image of Peter the Great casts a long shadow in modern Russian thought and culture. As important to modern Russia as the French Revolution is to France and the Reformation is to Germany, the image of this militaristic ruler, founder of St Petersburg, and czar of all Russia from 1689-1725 has been central to Russian history, literature, and art since the early 1700s.; Riasanovsky, one of the foremost historians of Russia, traces the development of this image from 1700 to the present. Drawing examples from Russian historical accounts, literature, folklore, and the arts, he shows how the use of the image of Peter has reflected the changing cultural and political values of the Russian people.
