Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Shawcross's official biography of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, published in September 2009, was a huge critical and commercial success. One of the great revelations of the book was Queen Elizabeth's insightful, witty private correspondence. Indeed, The Sunday Times described her letters as "wonderful . . . brimful of liveliness and irreverence, steeliness and sweetness." Now, in Counting One's Blessings, Shawcross has put together a selection of her letters, drawing on the vast wealth of material in the Royal Archives and at Glamis Castle. Queen Elizabeth was a prolific correspondent, from her early childhood before World War I to the very end of her long life at the beginning of the twenty-first century, and her letters offer readers a vivid insight into the real person behind the public face.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Letters to a Young Queen is a collection of letters and poems for young girls. Author Jay Barnett highlights the struggles and triumphs of the young women he has encountered through the Women of Excellence Project. Letters to a Young Queen is for the fatherless little girl who is desperately seeking male attention and craves the encouragement, discipline, and authority that only a father figure can give. These letters will inspire and empower young girls from all backgrounds to grow into the queens they were destined to be. Women of the 1900's had many fearless leaders and trailblazers to admire and respect-Amelia Earhart, Helen Keller, Rosa Parks and Eleanor Roosevelt, to name a few. Since then, women have shattered the glass ceiling-landing positions in traditionally male-dominated industries, such as politics, banking and science. Despite this progression, several prominent women in our current culture detract from the progress made thus far. The days of positive female role models are slowly disappearing, as reality stars and entertainers have captured the attention of our young girls. Young women of this generation have lost sight of the numerous sacrifices made to ensure and protect their freedoms and rights. How do we stop the perpetual cycle of uneducated and foolish behaviors of our young women before it's too late? The Women of Excellence Project is a program dedicated to the mentoring and mental development of young women. Through this work, author Jay Barnett began to see recurring behavior patterns among the young women highlighting their need for acceptance and validation. Even at an early age, young girls want to pursue what is socially accepted. In the absence of positive role models in today's society, girls imitate reality TV stars and their friends' behavior on social media. Now is the time to restore young women to their rightful place in society and to build them up into the queens that they truly are.

The words flow like a flooding river, through memories, remorse and reflections on life, the monarchy and the weight of the crown. Elizabeth reveals for the first time her deepest emotions, inner struggles and the tension between her position as Queen and her identity as a woman, as a mother and as a grandmother. As she tries to find meaning in the years gone by and muses about the time she has left, she explores her own personal relationship with Diana, the controversial figure who changed the British royal family forever. With intimacy and honesty, the Queen confronts her public image, society's expectations and her own conscience, revealing a side of herself the world had never seen before. 'Dear Diana' is a touching reflection on the end of life, the choices and the relationships that define our existence, a tale that reveals the heart and soul of a woman beyond the crown. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Queen's Answer: To the Letter From the King to His People No! I cannot, upon reflection, bring myself to use the name of her majesty in this way. A pamphlet has been pub lished, entitled A letter from the king to his people. It bears date from Carlton Palace. It has the King's arms at the head of it. 'it is signed george. The writer addresses the people as his subjects. In short, the thing is sent forth with all the circumstances calculated to induce us to believe, that the King is the real writer; and, then, at the close, it is declared, that it is a literary fiction, put forth with the most loyal intentions. When I first heard of and hadjust seen, this fiction, I conceived the design to give it answer in the some form; but, when I came to read the thing, I found it so horrible a performance, that I could not bring myself to put the design in execution. However, as the pam phlet contains what the enemies of the queen appear to think the King's case; and as it purports to be a true history of this family quarrel, I think it right to notice all the parts of it, on which common sense and common decency can suffer them selves to dwell for a moment; for a great deal of it is so very foolish, so glaringly absurd, as well as so foul, as to set all commentary at defiance; and indeed, it seems impossible.
