Page further informs the governor that the militia on the island (probably St. Simon's Island, Glynn County) is lamentably small and have armed themselves at their own expense.

Duke reports that he has been told that the Indians in that area have been very troublesome. He also refers to a receipt from two individuals for the body of Meshack Burney, pursuant to the governor's orders.

Porter quotes from Floyd's letters, informing Mitchell that troops stationed at Picolata, on the St. John's River opposite St. Augustine, are in danger of attack from the Alachua Indians and possibly British naval forces, as well. Floyd further reports on threats of ambush by "negroes who are in arms with the Spaniards," and troop movements between St. Augustine in Florida and Fernandina on the Georgia/Florida border.

The letter also recommends that a young graduate of Franklin College, Nathaniel Ashley, receive an appointment in the army. Jackson explains that Ashley's father's plantation had been attacked by unnamed Indians, and he sends him with this letter to meet Mitchell in Milledgeville.
