Book Let s Learn Together Let s Work Together

Download or read book Let s Learn Together Let s Work Together written by Kathleen Markey and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores some of the global challenges and possible solutions for transcultural health and social care, and includes a selection of papers that were presented at the 2nd European Transcultural Nursing Association International Conference, in June 2011. This collection explores some of the challenges and possible solutions from the perspectives of various countries regarding promoting transcultural health and social care, including Ireland, Turkey, Strasbourg, the Philippines, the Netherlands, Sweden and Australia. As outlined in the papers included, the provision of transculturally competent care is challenging and requires knowledgeable, skilled and culturally sensitive health and social care professionals. The delivery of culturally competent care requires a commitment from health and social care services, professionals working within these services, and institutes of education responsible for educating healthcare professionals to understand and be responsive to the needs of culturally diverse patients. Learned behaviour and deeply rooted values must be challenged to address unwitting prejudices and stereotyping. Attention should focus on creating an environment of trust where critical reflection occurs, blame is avoided, risk managed and new ideas developed, tested and evaluated.

Book Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria

Download or read book Why Are All the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria written by Beverly Daniel Tatum and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2017-09-05 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic, New York Times-bestselling book on the psychology of racism that shows us how to talk about race in America. Walk into any racially mixed high school and you will see Black, White, and Latino youth clustered in their own groups. Is this self-segregation a problem to address or a coping strategy? How can we get past our reluctance to discuss racial issues? Beverly Daniel Tatum, a renowned authority on the psychology of racism, argues that straight talk about our racial identities is essential if we are serious about communicating across racial and ethnic divides and pursuing antiracism. These topics have only become more urgent as the national conversation about race is increasingly acrimonious. This fully revised edition is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand dynamics of race and racial inequality in America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To successfully complete the transition from being a final year pre-reg nursing student to becoming a qualified staff nurse, students need to understand and practise the responsibilities and roles of the registered nurse. Nursing: transition to professional practice has been developed as a one-stop-shop for the principles of professional practice and the skills of the qualified nurse. Useful for the entire final year, the content is mapped against the transitional module and extremely useful for final year placements as well as providing tips on getting a job and continuing professional development. Book Equity Centered Trauma Informed Education

Download or read book Equity Centered Trauma Informed Education written by Alex Shevrin Venet and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Educators must both respond to the impact of trauma, and prevent trauma at school. Trauma-informed initiatives tend to focus on the challenging behaviors of students and ascribe them to circumstances that students are facing outside of school. This approach ignores the reality that inequity itself causes trauma, and that schools often heighten inequities when implementing trauma-informed practices that are not based in educational equity. In this fresh look at trauma-informed practice, Alex Shevrin Venet urges educators to shift equity to the center as they consider policies and professional development. Using a framework of six principles for equity-centered trauma-informed education, Venet offers practical action steps that teachers and school leaders can take from any starting point, using the resources and influence at their disposal to make shifts in practice, pedagogy, and policy. Overthrowing inequitable systems is a process, not an overnight change. But transformation is possible when educators work together, and teachers can do more than they realize from within their own classrooms.

Book Language Teacher Education for a Global Society

Download or read book Language Teacher Education for a Global Society written by B. Kumaravadivelu and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-05-22 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of second/foreign language teacher education is calling out for a coherent and comprehensive framework for teacher preparation in these times of accelerating economic, cultural, and educational globalization. Responding to this call, this book introduces a state-of-the-art model for developing prospective and practicing teachers into strategic thinkers, exploratory researchers, and transformative teachers. The model includes five modules: Knowing, Analyzing, Recognizing, Doing, and Seeing (KARDS). Its goal is to help teachers understand: how to build a viable professional, personal and procedural knowledge-base, how to analyze learner needs, motivation and autonomy, how to recognize their own identities, beliefs and values, how to do teaching, theorizing and dialogizing, and how to see their own teaching acts from learner, teacher, and observer perspectives. Providing a scaffold for building a holistic understanding of what happens in the language classroom, this model eventually enables teachers to theorize what they practice and practice what they theorize. With its strong scholarly foundation and its supporting reflective tasks and exploratory projects, this book is immensely useful for students, practicing teachers, teacher educators, and educational researchers who are interested in exploring the complexity of language teacher education.
