A Sea between Us is the harrowing true story of Yosely Pereira, the love of his life, Taire, and their incredible fight to escape the brutal bonds of communist Cuba. Ninety miles lay between their island prison and their dreams. But crossing those miles was only the beginning of this gripping journey. After building a boat and enduring the Florida Straits, Yosely secured his freedom, but his own escape was not enough. Taire and their two young children still needed to be rescued. A story of a harrowing journey fueled by love . . . A Sea between Us celebrates the strength of the human spirit and the transcendent power of love.

Book Container Logistics and Maritime Transport

Download or read book Container Logistics and Maritime Transport written by Dong-Ping Song and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-05 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a coherent and systematic view of the key concepts, principles, and techniques in maritime container transport and logistics chains including all the main segments: international maritime trade and logistics, freight logistics, container logistics, vessel logistics, port and terminal management, and sustainability issues in maritime transport. Container Logistics and Maritime Transport emphasizes analytical methods and current optimization models to tackle challenging issues in maritime transport and logistics. This book takes a holistic approach to cover all the main segments of the container shipping supply chains to achieve an efficient and effective logistics service system across the entire global transport chain. Sustainability issues such as social concern and carbon emissions from shipping and ports are also discussed. Each maritime transport segment is addressed using an approach from qualitative/descriptive analytics to quantitative/prescriptive analytics. Cutting-edge optimization models are presented and explained to tackle various strategic, tactical, and operational planning problems. The book will help readers better understand operations management in global maritime container transport chain. It will also provide practical principles and effective techniques and tools for researchers to push forward the frontiers of knowledge and for practitioners to implement decision support systems. It will be directly relevant to academic courses related to maritime transport, maritime logistics, transport management, international shipping, port management, container shipping, container logistics, shipping supply chain, and international logistics.

Book Fixed Stars and Judicial Astrology

Download or read book Fixed Stars and Judicial Astrology written by George Noonan and published by American Federation of Astr. This book was released on 1990 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Perhaps the least understood and most misused elements in astrology today are the fixed stars. Current practice is to consider the stars as no more than mini-manifestations of the planets whose nature they are presumed to hold. The locations of the stars projected onto the ecliptic are then considered valid points for aspectual relationships. No special significance is attributed to the non-zodiacal constellations; nor is a star's location within a constellation given any weight whatsoever. Finally, modern astrology places no distinction on the use of the stars and constellations in genethliacal astrology and the other branches of the ancient art. In this book the natures of the fixed stars and constellations as known by the classicists are discussed in detail. Methods of delineating the fixed stars are indicated, with special emphasis on the applications to judicial astrology. Included are chapters on the nature of the fixed stars; the northern, southern and zodiacal constellations; genethliacal applications of the fixed stars; judicial astrology; and three appendices with information on mathematics and rulership and a complete listing of the fixed stars.

Book Parallel Programming and Compilers

Download or read book Parallel Programming and Compilers written by Constantine D. Polychronopoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second half of the 1970s was marked with impressive advances in array/vector architectures and vectorization techniques and compilers. This progress continued with a particular focus on vector machines until the middle of the 1980s. The major ity of supercomputers during this period were register-to-register (Cray 1) or memory-to-memory (CDC Cyber 205) vector (pipelined) machines. However, the increasing demand for higher computational rates lead naturally to parallel comput ers and software. Through the replication of autonomous processors in a coordinated system, one can skip over performance barriers due technology limitations. In princi ple, parallelism offers unlimited performance potential. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to realize this performance potential in practice. So far, we have seen only the tip of the iceberg called "parallel machines and parallel programming". Parallel programming in particular is a rapidly evolving art and, at present, highly empirical. In this book we discuss several aspects of parallel programming and parallelizing compilers. Instead of trying to develop parallel programming methodologies and paradigms, we often focus on more advanced topics assuming that the reader has an adequate background in parallel processing. The book is organized in three main parts. In the first part (Chapters 1 and 2) we set the stage and focus on program transformations and parallelizing compilers. The second part of this book (Chapters 3 and 4) discusses scheduling for parallel machines from the practical point of view macro and microtasking and supporting environments). Finally, the last part (Le.

Book excerpt: Dewey Lambdin, the reigning master of maritime fiction, continues the adventures of Alan Lewrie, Royal Navy, from his days as a midshipman to captain of his own ship and, though on somewhat dubious grounds, a baronetcy in the 23rd book in the Alan Lewrie series, A Fine Retribution. Captain Alan Lewrie and his small squadron defeat four French frigates off northern Spain, winning honor, glory, and renown. So, why is such a successful captain suddenly without a ship, or another active commission? Why do rumors swirl that jealous foes’ powerful patrons are blighting his career? Months on end ashore, even in entertaining London setting up a household for himself and his retinue, getting his portrait painted, put him in serious sulks. Well, the artist is the sister of one of his midshipmen, a delightful and talented young lady of a modern outlook, but not modern enough to become Lewrie’s lover. Dare he risk a second marriage? Then, just when things are the rosiest, at last, Admiralty calls upon him to develop and command a plan to raid French-held coasts, not with sailors and Marines from his own ship, but with a battalion of Army troops carried in a squadron of transports. It’s intriguing, novel, and a way back to sea, but...can he part from the desirable Jessica Chenery? And if Lewrie does, will his foes allow him to succeed? Be certain that Alan Lewrie will prevail, scruples be damned!

Book God S House Beautiful Let S Go

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In God's House! Beautiful! Let's Go!, Jane Ann Derr has told us more than we have a right to ask. She has let us into the world of her marriage, her family, her work, her loss, her fears, and her happiness. She has let us into her faith in God and her devotion to Jesus Christ. She has let us into her husband's illness and death, and into the grief and resolve of her life as the one who survived. But her real interest is what she has seen of the goodness and mercy of God." -Stephen E. Broyles, author of The Wind that Destroys and Heals. "I highly recommend this book, especially for those who are called upon to pass through this valley of shadows." -Neil R. Lightfoot, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Abilene Christian University "For Harold and Jane Ann, the journey has been exceedingly fruitful. I predict that as you read this book, you will cry, you will laugh, and you will be encouraged. At least, that's what happened when I read it." -Gary Chapman, author of The Five Love Languages and Love as a Way of Life. Jane Ann Derr is also the author of Trailblazing with God, describing her family's missionary experiences in Ghana, West Africa. She lives in Georgia. You may write her at [email protected].
