Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DescriptionThis book is Anne's fourth for Chipmunka Publishing and in many ways one that reaches out to other people. Its aim is to encourage others who have also experienced mental health difficulties to take up new interests. Anne describes how she took to the pen and computer again, inspired by the Write Afresh Writing Group which meets in the Raynes Park area in Merton, especially for people who have had mental health issues. Anne describes how she also goes to the gym and tries to keep fit with aqua classes, and took up art classes for the first time in her life. 'We can all learn new skills.' she says. Read her chapter on being a survivor. Read some of her poetry. Anne hopes you will enjoy reading her book and write to her care of her publisher with your comments. She does intend to write further and would like to hear from her readers. Has this book inspired you or someone you care for to cope with their life? I hope so. It is not always easy when you have mental health issues to deal with, to engage with real life, but remember, it is your life and we need to get on with living. About the AuthorAnne Brocklesby was born in Epsom on 6th February 1951, and currently lives in the Wimbledon area where her two children Chris and Lizzie went to school. Anne is married to David, a solicitor, and he has been a great support to her during the time she was unwell. Anne currently goes to the gym to aqua classes to try and keep fit, and also earlier this year tried out some art classes, and joined a creative writing group. This creative writing group has inspired her to get her current book 'It's My Life!!' together, and she talks with great fondness of their regular weekly meetings. 'We love to hear each others' writings', she says. Anne is now thinking about the future. What will it hold? In the past she has had an active life working and bringing up her children, and now there is some time to reflect on the past and plan for the future she says with interest. This book is her fourth for Chipmunka Publishing and she has enjoyed every bit of getting the books together ready for publication. She hopes it will inspire others who have experienced mental health difficulties like herself, to reach out to others and to take up new interests. Anne is a keen advocate of mental health promotion and hopes that you can read her book 'Let's Hang On To Mental Health - We Need To Prevent Mental Distress' which discusses this in greater detail. Mental health promotion is informing people about wellbeing, and how they can look after their mental health, with positive policies in place for the mental health of the nation. Every year on October 10th there is a world mental health day. Anne's other two books are about her journey through manic depression and the third one, the sequel, deals with 'Moving On From Depresssion'.

Download or read book You Are Not a Rock written by Mark Freeman and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mental health is . . . being yourself. A prescriptive and positive guide, illustrated with line drawings, making the case that mental well-being, like physical health, can be strengthened over time and with specific techniques We all want to feel less anxiety, guilt, anger and sadness. We want to obsess less and be less lonely, free ourselves from our demons, compulsive habits, and stress. But as humans (unlike rocks) we experience all of these. And paradoxically, trying to avoid and control them only makes things worse. Having struggled with serious mental illness for many years himself, Mark Freeman has become a dedicated mental-health advocate and coach. He makes the case that instead of trying to feel less and avoid pain and stress, we need to build emotional fitness, especially our capacity for strength, balance and focus. With wit, compassion, and depth of experience and anecdotes, he shows that we can recover from many mental disorders, from mild to very serious, at all ages and stages of life, and even if other methods have failed. Freeman's innovative approach makes use of a range of therapeutic techniques, mindfulness training, peer support, humor, and common sense.

Book The Future of Mental Health

Download or read book The Future of Mental Health written by Eric Maisel and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Mental Health drills to the heart of the current mental health crisis, where hundreds of millions of individuals worldwide receive unwarranted "mental disorder diagnoses." It paints a picture of how mental health providers can improve their practices to better serve individuals in distress and outlines necessary steps for a mental health revolution. Eric Maisel's goal is to inject more human interaction into the therapeutic process.Maisel powerfully deconstructs the "mental disorder" paradigm that is the foundation of current mental health practices. The author presents a revolutionary alternative, a "human experience" paradigm. He sheds a bright light on the differences between so-called "psychiatric medication" and mere chemicals with powerful effects, explains why the DSM-5 is silent on causes, silent on treatment, and wedded to illegitimate "symptom pictures." Maisel describes powerful helping alternatives like communities of care, and explains why one day "human experience specialists" may replace current mental health professionals. An important book for both service providers and service users, The Future of Mental Health brilliantly unmasks current mental health practices and goes an important step further: it describes what we are obliged to do in order to secure better mental health services and better mental health for everyone.

Book Out of the Darkness of Academics Into the Light of Jesus Christ

Download or read book Out of the Darkness of Academics Into the Light of Jesus Christ written by Glenn W. Martin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009-05 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the nuances of college life as viewed from a Christian perspective. Dr. Martin came to the conclusion that the quest for human knowledge is endless in its own seductive way. Our educational bastions are an arms length from the church; yet it appears the church is being neglected by many who labor in the halls of academics by their lack of participation in church. It is durable and manageable for one to participate in both the educational process and the church, however, these individuals are becoming a rare breed and that is why Dr. Martin challenges the educator to return to his/her spiritual roots. Dr. Martin asserts spiritual values are a reality and to be negligent here is without excuse.

Book The Fallacy in the Promise

Download or read book The Fallacy in the Promise written by Jabari Gravy and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2017-07-06 with total page 1097 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Taking his readers through a grueling, eighteen-year-long psycho-legal odyssey, Jabari Gravy recounts the failures of our legal justice system, from legal training to jurisprudence. He also offers a breathtaking portrayal of borderline personality disorder through his relationship with his wife. His story reveals the legal scandal of their divorce and the exploitation of mental illness by his wife and a state court system. In stunning detail, Gravy dissects, exposes, and gives a definitive and vividly dramatic account of furtive judicial abuse of authority, painting a disturbing tableau of what actually happens in our courtrooms: their underlying design, organizational values, and daily operationsillustrating how the clandestine and undocumented come to deny directly and categorically the compelling public court record. Through a revealing window on how innocent people are railroaded to injustice with loss of livelihood, liberty, and life, he inextricably entwines the African-American experience with his other material, demonstrates the ominous secret cracks in our justice system, unveils a monolithic legal culture represented by gladiatorial back-scratching court functionaries who marginalize non-dominate cultures and inflict real casualtiesboth at the micro level, on the lives of ordinary people, and at the national level as our democracy is secretively eroded. Gravy concludes that pretty paper is not justice, and demands change.
