Book excerpt: He's found the love of his life. She thinks he's joking. Callum Johnstone discovered early on that when you're challenged in the height department, humour is the easiest way to deflect unwanted attention. Working for White Cairns Ski School in Scotland, he's found the love of his life - but she has him placed firmly in the 'friend zone' and it's easier to make her laugh than risk telling her how he really feels. Debbie McNeill knows that if she can just pass her instructor exams and lose a few extra pounds of weight, she's bound to meet her tall, dark and handsome Mr Right - just like in the romance novels she loves to read. But so far, life hasn't emulated fiction and her love-life has been a non-starter. When a competition gives Callum the chance to shine, he's torn. He has to decide whether to run away and mend his aching heart, or stay and give love one final chance. :: Snow Blind is the fourth novella from the Secrets in the Snow series about a Scottish snowsports school. The rest are tales of people at crossroads, seekers and troubled souls, finding compassion in themselves or others or for some finding it nowhere. The stories emerge out of the writer's life long love affair with the Southwest where he grew up and in which he's lived his adult life. In the backdrop of the stories is the landscape of the harsh urban world of the desert Southwest. These are tough honest stories about believable people and situations, stories true to the environment that created them. This is his fourth book."Talk To Me, James Dean is a vividly presented collection of individual gems which are showcased under one cover and engagingly entertaining, quite thought-provoking, and very highly recommended reading. H. Lee Barnes is one of those rare authors who seems able to touch the minds, invoke the emotions, and stroke the imaginations of his readers with a quite remarkable consistency from beginning to end." --Midwest Book Review

Book Plays by Tom Taylor

Download or read book Plays by Tom Taylor written by Martin Banham and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1985-10-24 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tom Taylor was one of the most successful and popular playwrights of the Victorian theatre. His plays are humorous and theatrically powerful, showing a social concern that was advanced for his times - particularly on matters such as the rehabilitation of criminals and corruption in public life. Taylor's work at the bar, in the civil service, and as a journalist and art critic inspired themes which he dramatized in more than seventy plays. Four of the best known are collected in this volume, the only edition of Taylor's works available. They are Still Waters Run Deep (1855), The Contested Election (1859), The Overland Route (1860) and the most popular, revived in modern productions at the National Theatre and the Victoria Theatre in Stoke, The Ticket-of-Leave Man (1863). Martin Banham discusses these and others in his introduction, and lists the original London cast at the beginning of each play. He provides a biographical record of Taylor's life and a list of all the principal plays. There are illustrations and a bibliography.
