Book Antigua the Land of Fairies Wizards and Heroes Part 1

Download or read book Antigua the Land of Fairies Wizards and Heroes Part 1 written by Denise Brown Ellis and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-09 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suddenly, there were black clouds in the sky. Everyone heard a loud noise coming from the sky and they all knew that Vorltrarr the Dragon was coming. King Aurthorr yelled out, "Daughters, Vorltrarr comes! Get ready your weapons! The time has come for you to fulfill the prophecy!" Princess Sasha, Princess Trina, Princess Alexandra and Rebecca walked up ahead of the army and lined up together in a row. They looked like warriors! Rebecca was not afraid! She took a deep breath and got her weapon ready for the task that lay ahead. She understood the prophecy now and had faith in herself and the Princesses. She was determined not to let them or the Land of Antigua down. They each pulled out their bows and prepared to kill the dragon. The Dragon Vorltrarr got nearer to the heroes! Fire came out of his nostrils and his mouth. Princess Alexandra handed each of the other girls one of the special arrows that they had gotten from the Head Centaur of the Unicorns. All four of the girls pointed their bows up into the air and waited for Vorltrarr to come nearer. Vorltrarr let out such a loud noise that the ground shook! Then fire came right out of his nostrils. The Wizard Thandorfur held his mighty wand up toward the sky and yelled, "Mighty clouds of the sky, I call upon you to bring forth lightening to destroy the Dragon Vorltrarr!" Suddenly the black clouds over the Dragon Vorltrarr began to roar like a freight train. Large lightening bolts came out of the clouds toward Vorltrarr. One lightening bolt struck Vorltrarr and wounded him but it didn't kill him!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A brilliant look at colonialism and its effects in Antigua--by the author of Annie John "If you go to Antigua as a tourist, this is what you will see. If you come by aeroplane, you will land at the V. C. Bird International Airport. Vere Cornwall (V. C.) Bird is the Prime Minister of Antigua. You may be the sort of tourist who would wonder why a Prime Minister would want an airport named after him--why not a school, why not a hospital, why not some great public monument. You are a tourist and you have not yet seen . . ." So begins Jamaica Kincaid's expansive essay, which shows us what we have not yet seen of the ten-by-twelve-mile island in the British West Indies where she grew up. Lyrical, sardonic, and forthright by turns, in a Swiftian mode, A Small Place cannot help but amplify our vision of one small place and all that it signifies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These have long been the type of islands that tourists delighted in a€œdiscovering.a€ Seemingly untouched by modern times, they seemed like the a€œolda€ Caribbean a€" small, intimate hotels, pristine beaches, uncluttered roads, with acres of cane fields and rainforests dominating the landscape. You still find hints of the old laid-back islands here, especially in the delightful plantation inns on both islands. These small hotels, built around historical buildings and sugar mills, still have a colonial charm. They are furnished with Caribbean antiques and emphasize the old-fashioned standards of warm, personalized service. So it is possible to sample both the charm of the old world and the activities of the new. Here is a uniquely detailed guide to these islands, excerpted from our much larger Leeward Islands guide. Maps, photos, complete information on all the places to stay, the restaurants, what to see and do.

Book Mercy Without Borders

Download or read book Mercy Without Borders written by Mark Zwick and published by Paulist Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After living in El Salvador and witnessing the cost of the political violence and economic hardship there, Mark and Louise Zwick founded Casa Juan Diego. Mercy Without Borders tells the story of the beginnings of the Catholic Worker in Houston, a city that has become a destination for waves of refugees from Mexico and Central America. Over the years, they have received the poor, the weary, and the destitute, seeing only the face of Christ regardless of immigration status. In addition to sharing their stories of Casa Juan Diego and many of its guests, the Zwicks analyze some of the causes of the economic imbalances that result in destitution south of the U.S. border, in countries where people toil in factories for little or nothing, only to see the fruits of their labor shipped to the affluent north. Why would these victims of injustice not seek a better life for themselves and their children? Book jacket.

Book Re Centering Women in Tourism

Download or read book Re Centering Women in Tourism written by Frances Julia Riemer and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-05-08 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Re-Centering Women in Tourism: Anti-Colonial Feminist Studies addresses tourism as simultaneously empowering women and reproducing colonial hierarchies. This volume contributes to conversations on the engagement of women in tourism by centering women’s multivalent lived experiences—as hosts, liaisons, vendors, performers, producers, and consumers—in tourism projects. Examining eco-tourism, craft production, and food tourism initiatives, the contributors embrace the building of new knowledge and advocate for change. By centering women and their experiences through epistemological lenses that encompass colonial histories and economics, this collection reframes the very presuppositions on which tourism initiatives are based and helps imagine sustainable and regenerative alternatives. Book A Dozen Lessons for Entrepreneurs

Download or read book A Dozen Lessons for Entrepreneurs written by Tren Griffin and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2017-11-21 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Dozen Lessons for Entrepreneurs shows how the insights of leading venture capitalists can teach readers to create a unique approach to building a successful business. Through profiles and interviews of figures such as Bill Gurley of Benchmark Capital, Marc Andreesen and Ben Horowitz of Andreesen Horowitz, and Jenny Lee of GGV Capital, Tren Griffin draws out the fundamental lessons from their ideas and experiences. Entrepreneurs should learn from past successes but also be prepared to break new ground. While there are best practices, there is no single recipe they should follow. By better understanding the views and experiences of a wide range of successful venture capitalists and entrepreneurs, readers can discern which of many possible paths will lead to success. With insight and verve, Griffin argues that innovation and best practices are discovered by the experimentation of entrepreneurs as they establish the evolutionary fitness of their business. The products and services created through this experimentation that have greater fitness survive, and less-fit products and services die. Entrepreneurs have always experimented when creating or altering a business. What is different today is the existence of modern tools and systems that allow experiments to be conducted more cheaply and rapidly than ever before. Griffin shows that listening to what the best venture capitalists have to say is invaluable for entrepreneurs. Their experiences, if studied carefully, teach bedrock methods and guiding principles for approaching business.
