Book excerpt: THE INTERNATIONAL BEST-SELLER It's time to unleash your inner goddess and find your authentic, fearless self with the inspiring rituals, practical exercises and thought-provoking wisdom in this book. Warrior Goddess Training is a book that teaches women to see themselves as perfect just the way they are, to resist society's insistence that they seek value, wholeness and love through something outside themselves, such as a husband, children, boyfriend, career or a spiritual path. Author HeatherAsh Amara has written this book as a message for women struggling to find themselves under these false ideals. Amara challenges women to be 'warrior goddesses', to be a woman who: • Ventures out to find herself • Combats fear and doubt • Reclaims her power and vibrancy • Demonstrates her strength of compassion and fierce love • Embraces her divine feminine goddess greatness Her approach draws on the wisdom from Buddhism, Toltec wisdom and ancient earth-based goddess spirituality, and combines them all with the goal of helping women become empowered, authentic and free. Included here are personal stories, rituals and exercises that encourage readers to begin their own journey towards becoming warrior goddesses.

Book Landscapes of Urban Memory

Download or read book Landscapes of Urban Memory written by Smriti Srinivas and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Established in the middle of the sixteenth century, Bangalore has today become a center for high-technology research and production, the new "Silicon Valley" of India, with a metropolitan population approaching six million. It is also the site of the very popular annual performance called the "Karaga" dedicated to Draupadi, the polyandrous wife of the heroes of the pan-Indian epic of the Mahabharata. Through her analysis of this performance and its significance for the sense of the civic in Bangalore, Smriti Srinivas shows how constructions of locality and globality emerge from existing cultural milieus and how articulations of the urban are modes of cultural self-invention tied to historical, spatial, somatic, and ritual practices. The book highlights cultural practices embedded in urbanization, and moves beyond economistic arguments about globalization or their reliance on the European polis or the American metropolis as models. Drawing from urban studies, sociology, anthropology, performance studies, religion, and history, Landscapes of Urban Memory greatly expands our understanding of how the civic is constructed.

Book Pedagogy for Religion

  • Author : Parna Sengupta
  • Publisher : Univ of California Press
  • Release : 2011-08-13
  • ISBN : 0520950410
  • Pages : 223 pages

Download or read book Pedagogy for Religion written by Parna Sengupta and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2011-08-13 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering a new approach to the study of religion and empire, this innovative book challenges a widespread myth of modernity—that Western rule has had a secularizing effect on the non-West—by looking closely at missionary schools in Bengal. Parna Sengupta examines the period from 1850 to the 1930s and finds that modern education effectively reinforced the place of religion in colonial India. Debates over the mundane aspects of schooling, rather than debates between religious leaders, transformed the everyday definitions of what it meant to be a Christian, Hindu, or Muslim. Speaking to our own time, Sengupta concludes that today’s Qur’an schools are not, as has been argued, throwbacks to a premodern era. She argues instead that Qur’an schools share a pedagogical frame with today’s Christian and Muslim schools, a connection that plays out the long history of this colonial encounter.

Download or read book The Eye of Argon written by Jim Theis and published by Wildside Press LLC. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not a hoax. Jim Theis was a real person, who wrote The Eye of Argon in all seriousness as a teenager, and published it in a fanzine, Osfan in 1970. But the story did not pass into the oblivion that awaits most amateur fiction. Instead, a miracle happened, and transcribed and photocopied texts began to circulate in science fiction circles, gaining a wide and incredulous audience among both professionals and fans. It became the ultimate samizdat, an underground classic, and for more than thirty years it has been the subject of midnight readings at conventions, as thousands have come to appreciate the negative genius of this amazing Ed Wood of prose.
