Book La ville made in China

Download or read book La ville made in China written by Jean-François Doulet and published by . This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Diagrams are an essential part of the most diverse processes of communication and cognition. Indeed, today the production of all kinds of text (including this one) is mediated by diagrammatic tools to be found on computer desktops. Not surprisingly, then, diagrams have become the object of much historical and theoretical work. This book--volume 2 of the Proceedings of the 33rd International Wittgenstein Symposium--is dedicated to this quickly growing field of interdisciplinary research. It includes contributions from philosophy, sociology (space syntax), art history, and history of science. Historically, there is a focus on Otto Neurath and his famous visual language (ISOTYPE), while the new attempts at theorizing diagrams presented here are mainly inspired by Charles Sanders Peirce and Ludwig Wittgenstein.

Book La Reconstruction en Europe Apr s la Premi re Et la Seconde Guerre Mondiale Et Le R le de la Conservation Des Monuments Historiques

Download or read book La Reconstruction en Europe Apr s la Premi re Et la Seconde Guerre Mondiale Et Le R le de la Conservation Des Monuments Historiques written by Nicholas Bullock and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living with History focuses on a particular aspect of heritage preservation in the twentieth century: destruction and postwar reconstruction in Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, and The Netherlands. This book establishes a status quaestionis for the historiography of wartime and postwar preservation, and sets these particular developments in preservation history in the context of the general evolution of architecture and urbanism. The authors investigate the specific role of conservationists and heritage institutions and administrations in the overall reconstruction and examine the part played by architects and planners in heritage preservation.

Book Metropolitan Democracies

Download or read book Metropolitan Democracies written by Bernard Jouve and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-04 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 2005. Citizen involvement - and the concept of partnership - in urban governance has long been a major issue in the transformation of local democracy. The move from delegated to participative forms of local government has, in principle, profound consequences for governance at the scale of cities. However, it is clear that partnership and participation are interpreted in many different ways, according to the traditions of government in different countries. This volume brings together the experiences of three countries in which very different approaches to participation are evident: Canada, France and the United Kingdom. By comparing and reflecting on these countries' approaches and the resulting changes in governance, it provides an in-depth analysis of the intentions and effects of involving citizens in policy making. It also highlights innovative new forms of partnership which are emerging within metropolitan areas at a local level.

Download or read book Le syst me d approvisionnement en terres dans les villes d Afrique de l Ouest written by Alain Durand-Lasserve and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Metropolitan Governing

Download or read book Metropolitan Governing written by Eran Razin and published by University of Alberta. This book was released on 2006-12-04 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metropolitan reforms have been implemented in Canada at a scale and frequency greater than anywhere else in the democratic world. Recent Canadian metropolitan reforms are setting precedents and could influence metropolitan agendas worldwide. This edited collection deals with the recent local government reforms in major Canadian cities—Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Winnipeg, and Vancouver—and provides comparative insights from other countries—Britain, the United States, Korea, and Israel. Steps undertaken by Canadian provinces have seemingly preferred in some cases ‘old regionalism' territorial reforms over 'new regionalism' horizontal networks of governance. Canadian experiences indicate that both weak metropolitan mechanisms and neighborhood-level governments tend to be unstable, often not fulfilling expectations. Moreover, it seems that only old regionalism deals effectively with sharing fiscal burdens, whereas new regionalism approaches can be effective in development. The cross-national case studies provide a perspective on the role of different political systems and political cultures in determining the metropolitan governance agenda and the reforms undertaken, revealing considerable similarities in the agenda and diversity in responses.
