La phase de temporisation est une étape incontournable dans la réhabilitation implanto-prothétique. Elle s'inscrit à toutes les étapes du plan de traitement, avant, pendant et après la pose de l'implant. Des solutions amovibles aux solutions fixées, les concepts de temporisation sont multiples avec leurs avantages et leurs inconvénients. Leurs rôles sont de compenser les édentements, de valider le projet esthétique, de protéger le site opératoire, de guider la cicatrisation, d'aménager les tissus mous péri-implantaires, de les préparer à l'empreinte ou encore de réaliser une mise en charge progressive des implants. L'accent est mis sur deux concepts en particulier : le formatage du profil d'émergence péri-implantaire par l'architecture des tissus mous notamment en cas de mise en esthétique immédiate, et le concept original du bridge dit « TOBBI » de temporisation. Même en phase de temporisation, les exigences esthétiques et de confort des patients sont quotidiennes. Ce travail démontre que l'arsenal thérapeutique de temporisation permet d'y répondre favorablement et qu'il potentialise aussi le succès esthétique et fonctionnel de la prothèse d'usage.

Ce travail a pour objectif de présenter les différentes alternatives thérapeutiques pour la temporisation en secteur esthétique. Après quelques rappels sur la chronologie du traitement implantaire, nous étudierons les impératifs mécaniques, fonctionnels, biologiques et esthétiques auxquels la prothèse de temporisation doit répondre. Une deuxième partie est consacrée à la description des différents types de prothèses de temporisation avec leurs indications, avantages et inconvénients. La dernière partie expose les limites de la temporisation.
