Book The Descent of the New Jerusalem

Download or read book The Descent of the New Jerusalem written by Andreas Hoeck and published by Peter Lang Publishing. This book was released on 2003 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study applies discourse analysis to the book of Revelation and offers thus a novel approach to an important biblical text. The object of examination is the last of John's visions in his Apocalypse, Rev. 21:1-22:5, a text famous for its biblical-theological density and for the great problems of literary and exegetical quality revealed by the history of exegesis. The author accurately defines his text concept, explains what he means by discourse analysis of the text and states its phases of application. He evaluates recognized exegetes of the Apocalypse and then moves on to his analysis of the pericope 21:1-22:5. Seven macro-sentences are marked out and explained. The novelty of the method applied yields a fresh and invigorating exegesis through a distinctive adherance to the literary data of the text while observing unusual alertness toward verb tenses.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The serpent of ancient times was more often associated with positive attributes like healing and eternal life than it was with negative meanings. This groundbreaking book explores in plentiful detail the symbol of the serpent from 40,000 BCE to the present, and from diverse regions in the world. In doing so it emphasizes the creativity of the biblical authors' use of symbols and argues that we must today reexamine our own archetypal conceptions with comparable creativity.--From publisher description.

Book Clement s Biblical Exegesis

Download or read book Clement s Biblical Exegesis written by Veronika Černušková and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Clement’s Biblical Exegesis scholars from six countries explore various facets of Clement of Alexandria’s hermeneutical theory and his exegetical practice. Although research on Clement has tended to emphasize his use of philosophical sources, Clement was important not only as a Christian philosopher, but also as a pioneer Christian exegete. His works constitute a crucial link in the tradition of Alexandrian exegesis, but his biblical exegesis has received much less attention than that of Philo or Origen. Topics discussed include how Clement’s methods of allegorical interpretation compare with those of Philo, Origen, and pagan exegetes of Homer, and his readings of particular texts such as Proverbs, the Sermon on the Mount, John 1, 1 John, and the Pauline letters.

Book THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS WERE THE JEWS

Download or read book THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS WERE THE JEWS written by ROGER SABBAH and published by Roger SABBAH. This book was released on 2022-01-09 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Greek Bible or Septuagint affirms (Exodos I, 11) that "The Children of Israel built the fortified cities of Pitom', Ramses, and 'ON' renamed today Heliopolis": THEY BUILT THE CITY OF TEMPLES AND PYRAMIDS. ANCIENT EGYPTIANS HAVE BEEN INVENTED BY THE GREEKS Forget everything you thought to be true about ancient Egyptians as the famous linguist and expert of ancient religions, Roger Sabbah, reveals the latest scientific issues. This book - the first of a trilogy - denounces the failure of Egyptology which encouraged a false vision of Niles Valley people. Modern science proves hieroglyphs wrote another story, truer and darker. Story of a brilliant civilization invaded by ancient Greeks, martyred and having their whole History rewritten to please a Greek mad-king. Words like Egypt, Egyptian, Pharaoh or Nile are Greek names, not real “Egyptian” names. They do not exist in the hieroglyphs. Greek invaders began the first true religious persecution in History, forbidding the priests to pray their Gods and imposing a new religious order. They invented the ancient Egyptians, the origin of the tear of humanity into religions of the revealed Book. This is the starting point of our civilization as you will discover in this book the hidden origins of modern Jews. But also the origin of modern monotheism as Nile Valley people priests and notables, were forced to hide their knowledge in certain ignored passages of the Bible and in scripted documents like the Kabbalah (Zohar). Roger Sabbah pierced the code and shares with you the untold History of Occidental civilization. Daniel Guersan, professor of political science from the University of Montreal.

Book The Genealogy of the Romantic Symbol

Download or read book The Genealogy of the Romantic Symbol written by Nicholas Halmi and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2007-11-29 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite its widely acknowledged importance in and beyond the thought of the Romantic period, the distinctive concept of the symbol articulated by such writers as Goethe and F. W. J. Schelling in Germany and S. T. Coleridge in England has defied adequate historical explanation. In contrast to previous scholarship, Nicholas Halmi's study provides such an explanation by relating the content of Romantic symbolist theory - often criticized as irrationalist - to the cultural needs of its time. Because its genealogical method eschews a single disciplinary perspective, this study is able to examine the Romantic concept of the symbol in a broader intellectual context than previous scholarship, a context ranging chronologically from classical antiquity to the present and encompassing literary criticism and theory, aesthetics, semiotics, theology, metaphysics, natural philosophy, astronomy, poetry, and the origins of landscape painting. The concept is thus revealed to be a specifically modern response to modern discontents, neither reverting to pre-modern modes of thought nor secularizing Christian theology, but countering Enlightenment dualisms with means bequeathed by the Enlightenment itself. This book seeks, in short, to do for the Romantic symbol what Percy Bysshe Shelley called on poets to do for the world: to lift from it its veil of familiarity.
