Book Bank Industry versus Stock Market Industry Relationships

Download or read book Bank Industry versus Stock Market Industry Relationships written by José L. García-Ruiz and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-03-31 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on a variety of themes concerning the relationship between financial systems in a broader sense and firms’ growth in historical perspective in some European countries. Financial systems are nowadays largely acknowledged to be a crucial element in determining economic growth. In modern economies, they play a key role by mobilizing savings, pricing risks and allocating capital to firms. Following a consolidated taxonomy focusing on the historical perspective, countries have been conventionally divided into bank-oriented (Continental Europe countries and Japan) and market-oriented systems (Anglo-Saxon countries). The chapters in this book present case studies on Belgium, Great Britain, France and Italy and show that financial systems do not trigger growth processes and industrialization, but they are essential to sustain them over time. Each society has the financial system that fits with its historical trajectory, without any being better or worse than others. The important thing is to have a financial system that is sophisticated and stable, and that evolves according to the demand forces of the moment. History matters. Bank-Industry versus Stock Market-Industry Relationships will be a beneficial read for students interested in economics and business history. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Business History.

Book Concilier flexibilit du travail et coh sion sociale

Download or read book Concilier flexibilit du travail et coh sion sociale written by Council of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Crisis of Liberal Italy

Download or read book The Crisis of Liberal Italy written by Douglas J. Forsyth and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-06-06 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this major interpretation of the crisis of democracy in Italy after World War I, Douglas Forsyth uses unpublished documents in Italy's central state archives, as well as private papers, diplomatic and bank archives in Italy, France, Britain and the United States, to analyse monetary and financial policy in Italy from the outbreak of war until the march on Rome. The study focuses on real and perceived conflicts and often painful choices between great power politics, economic growth, macroeconomic stabilisation and the preservation or strengthening of democratic consensus. The key issue explored is why governments in Italy after World War I, although headed by left-liberal reformers, were unable to press ahead with the democratic reformism which had characterised the so-called 'Giolittian era', 1901-1914. Their failure paved the way for parliamentary deadlock and Mussolini's seizure of power.

Book The Multinational Banking Industry RLE Banking Finance

Download or read book The Multinational Banking Industry RLE Banking Finance written by Neil Coulbeck and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-12 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of international banks within the developed economies has come under increasingly hostile public scrutiny, yet little attention has been paid to the structure and purpose of the banks themselves. Most existing studies concentrate on the part played by international banks as intermediaries in the domestic and international economy, failing to consider the foremost concern of the banks themselves – their success as business enterprises. This book examines the practical problems faced by the Universal Multinational banks (UMNBs) in the fields of strategic planning and business development. It explains the common constraints encountered by the UMNBs, showing that, whether they like it or not, current market pressures are governing their policies in all the developed economies. Through studying the management structures and business policies of these banks this book provides a much clearer picture of their activities in the world economy. Initially, it concentrates on the UMNBs of the USA since they have provided a strategic model for other global banking concerns. The UMNBs of Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Canada and Switzerland are then discussed to establish their similarities and differences: case studies are included at the end of each chapter to illustrate and reinforce the points made in the preceding text. Although written in 1984 the author successfully predicted many of the subsequent developments in the field of information technology and competition in world markets, which led to the emergence of global financial enterprises.

Book Family Class and Ideology in Early Industrial France

Download or read book Family Class and Ideology in Early Industrial France written by Katherine A. Lynch and published by Univ of Wisconsin Press. This book was released on 1988 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Katherine Lynch's study of the French state's response to a crisis of working-class families illustrates a new sophistication in our understanding of the complex origins of social policy. She looks at middle-class reformers' formulation of social policy affecting illegitimacy, child abandonment, and child labor and examines the implementation of these policies in three major factory towns--Lille, Mulhouse, and Rouen--in the quarter century before the revolution of 1848. . . . This is a most valuable book that seeks to understand both the politics of reform and the ways in which reformist policies change in the process of implementation. It presents a sophisticated exploration of important issues."--Journal of Economic History

Book British Imperialism

Download or read book British Imperialism written by P.J. Cain and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-01-14 with total page 543 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A milestone in the understanding of British history and imperialism, and truly global in its reach, this magisterial account received numerous accolades from reviewers in its first edition. The first to coin the phrase "gentlemanly capitalism", Cain and Hopkins make the strong and provocative argument that it is impossible to understand the nature and evolution of British imperialism without taking account of the peculiarities of her economic development. In particular, the growth of the financial sector - and above all, the City of London - played a crucial role in shaping the course of British history and Britain's relations overseas. Now with a substantive new introduction and a conclusion, the scope of the original account has been widened to include an innovative discussion of globalization.
