Cet impact est majoré dans le cas d’aidant accompagnant des malades en soins palliatifs. Le but de notre étude est de déterminer comment le rôle d’aidant familial de patients pris en charge en fin de vie à domicile influence la perception que l’aidant a de sa santé et son recours aux soins pendant la prise en charge et à son décours immédiat. Matériel et méthodes Notre étude qualitative est basée sur l’analyse thématique d’entretiens semi dirigés d’aidants familiaux de patients pris en charge en fin de vie à domicile. Résultats Quatre axes thématiques ont été identifiés. Ces axes permettent de prendre en compte les différentes dimensions influençant la représentation de sa santé par l’aidant et son recours aux soins pendant la prise en charge et à son décours immédiat. L’aidant est un soignant témoin de l’évolutivité de la maladie mais également acteur de soins. L’aidant est un parent ce qui est source d’ambigüité dans son positionnement au cours de l’accompagnement. L’aidant est un patient qui doit composer avec ses propres problèmes de santé et voit son recours aux soins bouleversé pendant l’accompagnement et à son décours. Enfin les références sociétales de l’aidant sont à la fois sollicitées et modifiées au cours et au décours de l’accompagnement. ConclusionL’accompagnement d’un proche en fin de vie à domicile est une expérience d’une rare intensité. Cet accompagnement est générateur d’une grande vulnérabilité physique et psychologique de l’aidant mais également d’une complexification de son recours aux soins. Les professionnels de santé impliqués au cours de l’accompagnement, au premier desquels se trouve le médecin traitant, ont un rôle primordial dans la prévention, la détection des problèmes de santé et la facilitation du recours aux soins de l’aidant.

The first ECNP congress took place in Copenhagen, May 1985, where a working group of European scientists within the field of psychopharmacology was elected to prepare a constituent ECNP congress in Brussels, 1987. Among the most active members of this group was Max Hamilton. At the second ECNP congress in Brussels Max Hamilton was elected as the first honorary member of the ECNP. When we received the message of his death we decided at once to arrange a Max Hamilton memorial symposium at the third ECNP congress, May 1989, in Gothenburg, Sweden. This monograph contains the proceedings of the Max Hamilton symposium which was chaired by the editors. The opening lecture of the third ECNP congress was a Max Hamilton lecture: "A life devoted to science in psychiatry" which was presented by Sir Martin Roth. It seemed obvious to include Sir Martin's lecture as the opening article of this monograph. Although G .E. Berrios was unable to participate in the ECNP congress we have found it logical to include his manuscript on "The Hamilton Depression Scale and the Numerical Description of the Symptoms of Depression" as another personal contribution to Max Hamilton and his rating scales.
