Book For the Muslims

Download or read book For the Muslims written by Edwy Plenel and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2016-06-28 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A piercing denunciation of Islamophobia in France, in the tradition of Emile Zola At the beginning of the twenty-first century, leading intellectuals are claiming “There is a problem with Islam in France,” thus legitimising the discourse of the racist National Front. Such claims have been strengthened by the backlash since the terrorist attacks in Paris in January and November 2015, coming to represent a new ‘common sense’ in the political landscape, and we have seen a similar logic play out in the United States and Europe. Edwy Plenel, former editorial director of Le Monde, essayist and founder of the investigative journalism website Mediapart tackles these claims head-on, taking the side of his compatriots of Muslim origin, culture or belief, against those who make them into scapegoats. He demonstrates how a form of “Republican and secularist fundamentalism” has become a mask to hide a new form of virulent Islamophobia. At stake for Plenel is not just solidarity but fidelity to the memory and heritage of emancipatory struggles and he writes in defence of the Muslims, just as Zola wrote in defence of the Jews and Sartre wrote in defence of the blacks. For if we are to be for the oppressed then we must be for the Muslims.

Book Academic Work From A Dyslexic Undergraduate

Download or read book Academic Work From A Dyslexic Undergraduate written by Pierce Lohman and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-04-28 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What makes this book special is the fact that, even though being diagnosed with Dyslexia.Overall, you will notice that the papers in the book have many grammatical and English errors in it. Additionally, it may sometimes even seem very confusing the flow of logic written down in this book. However, It is not meant on purpose. On the contrary, it is a means to demonstrate the hardship that a Dyslexic has in an academic environment, even with the vast support that he/she can receive. I invite you to keep in mind that those errors, which may seem evident to you, are, in fact, impossible for me to find on my own. As such, fundamentally, the papers are an attempt to share with the world the fundamental meaning of Dyslexia, which is not subject to level of intelligence, but beyond the control of individuals.

Book Technology Industry and Trade

Download or read book Technology Industry and Trade written by Eliyahu Ashtor and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-28 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the fifth collection of articles by Eliyahu Ashtor to be published by Variorum and focuses on the fundamental question of why, during the later Middle Ages, technology and industry declined, even collapsed, in the Muslim Levant, while simultaneously making enormous progress in the Christian West. An indefatigable researcher in archives all over the Mediterranean, Ashtor amassed quantities of data on this subject, and began to propose causal links between, on the one hand, demographic trends, types of political regime, economic policies and attitudes towards innovation, and on the other, the progress or decline of technology and industry. Although his work was cut short by his death in 1984, the information that Ashtor has made available, for instance on the sugar and the alkali industries, and the questions and hypotheses he has suggested will provide a vital basis for continuing research. The final article, dealing more specifically with the history of commerce, represents in effect a summation of the author's views on the role of the Jews in the trade of the Mediterranean.

Download or read book North Africa Colonialism and the EU written by Volkan Ipek and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-28 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explains the postcolonial nationalism theory of Morocco focusing on the nation’s membership application to the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1987 through the initiatives of King Hassan II. The project examines why states, such as Morocco, that have been geographically beyond the classical European borders felt European in terms of self-identity. The author uses a comparative approach, studying Tunisia, Algeria, Malta, Cyprus, to postulate why these states have opted not to apply for EEC. This work brings a new approach to the Europe-Africa relations and revisits the concept of the European enlargement.
