Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the regulation of the State/Enterprise relationship in the framework of international economic context. It analyzes this relationship from the discrete perspectives of conflict, cooperation, and integration in contributions by authors representing a diverse range of legal cultures and political backgrounds. The topic is investigated following three approaches: • State versus Enterprise (the State which bans, restricts, or regulates the activities of Enterprises, both domestic and foreign);• Enterprise versus State (the Enterprises, main actors of commercial, industrial or financial initiatives, which may directly or indirectly affect the legal and economic structure of the State);• State as Enterprise and Enterprise as State (public Enterprises under political control that pursue geopolitical goals, and Enterprises that rely on the political, financial, and strategic support of the State for their business expansion). Furthermore, the volume includes a special focus on the relationship State/Enterprise in non-capitalist economies (China, Russia, and Cuba).

Download or read book Les fonds souverains written by Henri-Louis Védie and published by Editions Eska. This book was released on 2010 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The evolving strategies of Sovereign Wealth Funds

Download or read book The evolving strategies of Sovereign Wealth Funds written by Nabylah Abo Dehman and published by Edizioni Nuova Cultura. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea behind this publication is to assess the extent to which Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWF) could fulfill a mandate that would extend beyond the pursuit and obtainment of financial returns. This means to assess indeed the potential of these investment vehicles with regards to the adoption of responsible investment practices and to the direct or indirect financing of development either domestically or in third countries. The research has been developed during my PhD in Political Science – International Cooperation curricula – that I have recently completed at Sapienza University of Rome under the supervision of prof. Roberto Pasca di Magliano. In particular, the analysis is going to investigate into the characteristics that differentiate SWF from other large investors in the adoption of responsible investment guidelines by also presenting some SWF that have already undertaken that direction. My thanks go to the Roma Sapienza Foundation – International Cooperation – and to its Scientific Committee which has decided to reward my Phd dissertation with this publication.

Book EU External Relations and the Power of Law

Download or read book EU External Relations and the Power of Law written by Kenneth A Armstrong and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-08-22 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The breadth and depth of the scholarship of Marise Cremona is honoured in this collection of essays written by her colleagues and friends. Taking Cremona's field-defining research as a point of reference, this collection of research articles examines the power of law in EU external relations. Echoing the expansive scope of Cremona's intellectual enquiries across the growing and diversifying field of external relations law, this volume offers new insights into the principles and procedures that underlie this area of law; the role and responsibilities of the EU as an international actor; and the strategies and instruments through which the Union pursues its external agenda. Spanning the analysis of foundational concepts and more contemporary interventions in respect of the environment, human rights, foreign direct investment and even Brexit, what emerges from this collection is a richly conceptualised and clear examination of the multiple ways in which the power of law captures or eludes the EU's construction of a domain of external relations; a domain in which the EU interacts not only with its Member States but also other subjects of the international legal order.

Book L exploitation mini re en Afrique

Download or read book L exploitation mini re en Afrique written by Punam Chuhan-Pole and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2019-10-29 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Sovereign Wealth Funds

Download or read book Sovereign Wealth Funds written by Alberto Quadrio Curzio and published by Harriman House Limited. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) - state investment vehicles based on balance of payment surpluses - have come increasingly under the scrutiny of public opinion over the past decade. Their remarkable investments in developed economies have also attracted the attention of politicians, academics and financial operators. At first ignored, then seen as a cause for concern, they finally came to be viewed as stabilising agents amid the troubles of the 2007-2009 financial tsunami. Having sponsored the bailouts of some significant Western banks, SWFs underwent a phase of retrenchment concomitant with the shrinking of economic growth, the bursting of financial and real-estate bubbles and the emphasis on refocusing liquidity on domestic markets that followed in the wake of the crisis. Since the second half of 2009, however, SWFs have adjusted targets and strategies to the new financial paradigm and re-engaged in the global economy, proving to be major players in the international financial markets. The universe of SWFs symbolises a shift in the balance of economic power, with the dominant areas being the Gulf Council countries, China, Singapore, Russia, Libya and Norway. It is also an area of finance that has hitherto remained - and not accidentally - profoundly obscure. This book presents comprehensive research and analysis of this shift, as well as the related issue of transparency. It furthermore brings together the best research and information available on the activities of SWFs, detailing previously hard to find operational information. In this book the authors answer key questions, such as: - What defines a SWF? - When and how did SWFs emerge? - What investment strategies do SWFs pursue? - What are the main financial, economic and political consequences of the operations of SWFs? - What reactions have SWFs triggered in their domicile countries and abroad? - Is transparency in SWFs really important and for whom? - What approach has been taken by international organisations towards SWFs? 'Sovereign Wealth Funds' provides a detailed guide to an area of finance worth trillions of dollars, involving many of the world's governments, and affecting a wide array of sectors. It should prove essential reading for anyone looking to understand this international financial phenomenon.

In light of this socio-political and economic shift in both inland and in world markets, this book offers a thorough analysis on problems, prospects and the way ahead for the financial integration of the South-Mediterranean region. Several perspectives on financial integration and policy recommendations are put forward from a leading group of researchers specializing on the Mediterranean region.

Book A New Approach to Global Studies from the Perspective of Small Nations

Download or read book A New Approach to Global Studies from the Perspective of Small Nations written by Kiyonobu Date and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-13 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With emphasis on East Asian and North American examples – notably Japan and Quebec – Date, Laniel and their contributors take a new approach to the understanding of small nations and their role in the international system. Small nations, by their very nature, raise significant questions about what a nation is. Some small nations are sovereign states with relatively small populations and limited territory, others are nations within larger sovereign states, with distinctive cultures, governance structures or other features that differentiate them from their “parent” state. By focussing on non-European nations in particular, the contributors to this volume challenge our conceptions of what a small nation is and how it operates within the international system. They focus in particular on the nation-within-a-nation-state of Quebec and on Japan, supplemented by further examples from East Asia. By interrogating what these examples have to show us about the typology and character of small nations, they offer a critique of superpower and draw out the potential of small nation studies. A valuable resource for students and scholars of international relations and theories of the nation and nation state.

Book The Age of Diversity

Download or read book The Age of Diversity written by Jean-Louis Roy and published by Mosaic Press. This book was released on 2016-11-01 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In twenty-five years, 80% of the world population will live in Asia and Africa. What changes, culturally I particular, should be expected in this century? This is the vast and fascinating question Jean-Louis Roy tries to answer with the help of correspondents from Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe. The author argues that shifting wealth from the West to Asia, Latin America and Africa causes the reconfiguration of the economic map. This tilting also transforms the global cultural space. The dominant cultural position occupied by the Atlantic area will not disappear overnight. However, it is important to note that emerging countries are working earnestly, well served by the tools of the digital age. For example, China is already the world leader in the art market, and Nigeria, the second in international film production after India. Diversity emerges from all sides. Welcome to the twenty-first century!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The richness, clarity and nuances of the structure and methodology followed by the contributors make the book a very valuable tool for students... seeking to obtain a general understanding of the market and how it is regulated.” – Ligia Catherine Arias Barrera, Banking & Finance Law Review The fully updated edition of this user-friendly textbook continues to systematise the European law governing capital markets and examines the underlying concepts from a broadly interdisciplinary perspective. The 3rd edition deals with 3 central developments: the project of the capital markets union; sustainable finance; and the further digitalisation of financial instruments and securities markets. The 1st chapter deals with the foundations of capital markets law in Europe, the 2nd explains the basics, and the 3rd examines the regime on market abuse. Chapter 4 explores the disclosure system and chapter 5 short-selling and high-frequency trading. The role of intermediaries, such as financial analysts, rating agencies, and proxy advisers, is described in chapter 6. Chapter 7 explains compliance and corporate governance in investment firms and chapter 8 illustrates the regulation of benchmarks. Finally, chapter 9 deals with public takeovers. Throughout the book emphasis is placed on legal practice, and frequent reference is made to the key decisions of supervisory authorities and courts. This is essential reading for students involved in the study of capital markets law and financial law.
