Book The Theory of Neutralization and the Archiphoneme in Functional Phonology

Download or read book The Theory of Neutralization and the Archiphoneme in Functional Phonology written by Tsutomu Akamatsu and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 1988-01-01 with total page 557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of neutralization and the archiphoneme is well known to have been expounded by the Prague School. It is now being fully accepted and practised by A. Martinet and his associates, to whom Akamatsu refers as the neo-Prague School. The objective is to propose a maximally functionalist theory of neutralization and the archiphoneme by submitting to critical discussion from a functional point of view all the principal notions pertaining to this theory in its traditionally professed form. The author comes up with a theory of neutralization and the archiphoneme which is fundamentally based on but is clearly different from that which is normally associated with the Prague School and the neo-Prague School.

Book Methods and Interdisciplinarity

Download or read book Methods and Interdisciplinarity written by Roger Waldeck and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinarity research results from a growing need for multi-perspective methods, and knowledge on complex and multifaceted objects of study. It is not simply scientific research that involves several disciplines, but ultimately, the aim is confronting this knowledge and – if possible – articulating it coherently. Using specific examples, Methods and Interdisciplinarity categorizes the different modes of interdisciplinarity and discusses the mechanisms of hybridization between them. On the one hand, the book shows how the same issue can be treated according to various points of view from several disciplines, which can give rise to complementary or even contradictory knowledge. On the other hand, it illustrates how methods from some disciplines make it possible to articulate the qualitative or quantitative approaches of others.

Book Concise History of the Language Sciences

Download or read book Concise History of the Language Sciences written by E.F.K. Koerner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents in a single volume a comprehensive history of the language sciences, from ancient times through to the twentieth century. While there has been a concentration on those traditions that have the greatest international relevance, a particular effort has been made to go beyond traditional Eurocentric accounts, and to cover a broad geographical spread. For the twentieth century a section has been devoted to the various trends, schools, and theoretical framework developed in Europe, North America and Australasia over the past seventy years. There has also been a concentration on those approaches in linguistic theory which can be expected to have some direct relevance to work being done at the beginning of the twenty-first century or those of which a knowledge is needed for the full understanding of the history of linguistic sciences through the last half of this century. The last section of this book reviews the applications of some of these findings. Based on the foundation provided by the award winning Encyclopedia of Language and Linguistics this volume provides an excellent focal point of reference for anyone interested in the history of the language sciences.

Book M thodes et outils pour l analyse phon tique des grands corpus oraux

Download or read book M thodes et outils pour l analyse phon tique des grands corpus oraux written by NGUYEN Noël and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-05-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
