Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2003, Congress passed the United States Leadership Against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Act, which established a 5-year, $15 billion initiative to help countries around the world respond to their AIDS epidemics. The initiative is generally referred to by the title of the 5-year strategy required by the act-PEPFAR, or the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. PEPFAR Implementation evaluates this initiative's progress and concludes that although PEPFAR has made a promising start, U.S. leadership is still needed in the effort to respond to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The book recommends that the program transition from its focus on emergency relief to an emphasis on the long-term strategic planning and capacity building necessary for a sustainable response. PEPFAR Implementation will be of interest to policy makers, health care professionals, special interest groups, and others interested in global AIDS relief.

Download or read book Aeneas Sicily and Rome written by Karl Galinsky and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 395 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The legend of Aeneas as preserved in the art and artifacts of antiquity is the focus of this study. Gallant warrior, accomplice in the abduction of Helen, fugitive from burning Troy, founder of Rome-in all his roles, Aeneas appears in ancient sculpture and wall painting, on vases, coins, lamps, mirrors, and gems, as richly illustrated here. To what extent he was known to the Greeks and Romans, for what qualities he was admired, and how his legend served the propaganda of empire building are examined in this survey of the visual data, and these are correlated with what is known of the legend in the literary, historical, and religious traditions of the ancient Mediterranean world. Originally published in 1969. • Author : M. von Albrecht
  • Publisher : BRILL
  • Release : 2018-07-17
  • ISBN : 9004351418
  • Pages : 384 pages

Download or read book Roman Epic written by M. von Albrecht and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author's approach to Roman epic is interpretative; the reader is invited to study a choice of typical texts, from the beginnings to the end of Antiquity. Famous poets are given the attention they deserve, but also some minor authors are discovered as precious 'missing links' between the ages. Special heed is paid to intertextual relationships between different epochs, cultures, literary genres, linguistic and literary patterns. The book is meant for students and teachers of classical and modern literatures, but also for all those interested in the history of literary genres and cultural ideas.
